I was going to cut and paste the text from the link above, but it was a little long.

I have lo jack on the hatchback, so I am not too worried; generally, cars here in California are stolen and then stored for a couple of weeks in a parking garage until they fall off of the radar screen that cops use... then they are transported.

Problem is, a lot of thieves know where the lo jack is located, so you might lose your car anyway...

the link above does not touch any concerns in my comments, but it did raise my concerns a bit; especially now that the whole derivatives/mortgage fiasco is about to blow....

It doesn't seem to be nearly as large a problem in my area. The insurance companies are BS. I can honestly say I'd wait a week, sit on a friggen milk crate and drive that thing straight into the Altantic Ocean if they refused to pay for it. I'd first refuse to take it back though, tell the finance company to go feck themselves, work it out with the insurance company, I ain't paying $hit till a judge forces me to.

Buick takes this flaw and markets it! The commercial where Tiger locks himself out of his car and calls a number and they unlock it for him. Bet the car thieves are just drooling over that one.

Working around law enforcement as I do, I am always amazed at how there is a 'technology war' going on....whether it's car theft, identity theft etc.

The bad guys are always trying to exploit weaknesses and loopholes and LE responds with its own technology advances in return.

Great article...looks like car theft is big in the bay area. When I went to South Florida regularly, it was huge down there. Not much of an issue around here though...

(As soon as I say that, one of my cars may get ripped off....)
