I used to golf all the time. But I could not break 90, and this discouraged me greatly. Having shattered my wrists more than 3 times, I believe the bones grinding and pain while swinging hindered my progress, but I believe it also helped my wrists.

I have not golfed in a year. I am waiting to purge myself of even thinking of anything I ever learned or ingrained. Before I play again, I will take lessons first; in fact a series of lessons, and go back the right way.

I was just pounding sand, but it sure looks fun. Does anyone remember that picture I took years ago at Lincoln Park with the flagstick in the middle of the Golden Gate Bridge? That was a good picture.

I still have 3 sets of clubs, including a gorgeous set of blades.

Maybe next year; until then, I remain in the off topic...

Edited to add: This is exactly how my wrist looked the first couple of times I broke it. Swan neck break (warning--- graphic) :

Freaking Europeans are crazy, because I was in no mood for a video when this crap happened to me...

Plus a broken finger and thumb. I remember reading on a forum, someone started a thread asking what your worst injuries were, and crap that got really scary; severed limbs, broken necks and back, 100 stitches, buddy getting stabbed in a bar and dying, etc...

Anyways, it hurts like hell to snap your wrist and get a "swan neck" formation from the break, but I am quite sure that there have been much worse injuries on this forum.

But it really screwed up my swing. I used to play baseball pretty darn good, and never started golf, before the wrist breakages, and finger fractures...

At this point, I cannot blame the injuries. I am stepping back now, to forget everything I have ingrained, and then I will get lessons...

Truth be told, it hurt like hell to swing, when I first began, and even my playing partners could hear the bones grind when I was at the tee... everything kind of grinded down and smoothed out, over time, but I learned a lot of bad habits, resulting from it... Golf was almost like a great wrist therapy for me, in hindsight...

rambling,

spank

A couple years ago my dad rolled our ATV. He came in the house and showed me his arm and I almost vomited. It looked similar to the one in the video. After the cast came off, he rebroke about a week later.

Pretty dreadful injuries, Spank. Look forward to seeing some golf-related posts from you in the near future. Not that your posts about BBQ, tools, and other manly things aren't interesting...

I broke my wrist similarly 8 years or so ago. By angular displacement was completely sideways, looking at the back of one's hand. 100% displacement. Roller blading. Caught an uneven edge on the ground, flipped forward into a wall.

Probably had an undiagnosed concussion too. Hooray for inexplicable head tremors!

Two what? The third time I broke my wrist was attempting a slam dunk. It was hot by San Francisco standards, and my hands were sweaty...

I jump up and slam the basketball (it bounced out, failure) and grab onto the rim. I start to move forward, but slip off the rim and fall, basically 9 feet with my wrist trying to break the fall... There was no give there, at all... I even heard the wrist bones snap.

Since then, whenever I fall, I raise my hands, and I have screwed up my hips and ribs, and stuff, but, to this day, I won't land with my hands first...

Jeff4i, what is your worst injury?

sincerely,

spankdoggie

I was actually commending the post. For all the subtle jokes you made, and twice you got me all wound up...

Oh, and I wouldn't make light of broken bones unless it was instigated by the victim, they are aweful.
