Any auto body guys here?

Repair shop says the unibody on my daughter's car (2000 Mercury Cougar) was bent. I'm reading alot on it and is repairing the unibody a reliable repair?

Generally no. The unibody is the main structral bracing and strength in the whole design. It can be repaired but only really in certain spots in the frame. If done incorrectly it could become a death-trap on wheels

A 2000 Mercury is a piece of crap. I'd go for it. Don't believe all the hype about bent frames and stuff... Fix the bent frame cheaply, and don't go on the freeway; you should be fine.

Does the bastard have airbags?

Seriously, bent frames are a big problem with real nice cars, but that car is a piece of crap, so just get it fixed as easily as possible... Is insurance paying for it?

You cannot seriously sell the bastard, but you can drive it forever.

Uh...there is no frame on a unibody car.

Unless you count the unit body. Which is bloody expensive to fix, unless you intend to just discard any structural integrity.

It is a freaking 2000 Mercury!!! That bastard does not have to be perfect.

I am quite sure, they can get it close, and I don't have any experience in auto body repair...

I do have experience in real life, and this is what I am bringing to the table here.

Eracer, if I am wrong, educate me on this... Sure, if it is an insurance issue, and the car is considered totaled, then it would not be feasible...

The original poster has certainly not provided enough information for any of us to even discuss the matter...
