A cool optical illusion.

Square A and Square B are the exact same shade of grey.

Don't believe it? Take a piece of paper and cut out squares to match their positions. Lay the paper over the picture and look at the squares again.

I'll be darned. I would have bet money that they were different. (used post it notes rather cutting up a piece of paper though )

I still disagree.

They appear different to me, even when compared directly. I think that if you place the paper imperfectly on A, the "shadowlines" formed by having the white paper over the (darker) A square make the square itself look brighter, and relatively closer to the shade of B.

Raising the BS flag on this one, chums!

Yep, that's BS.

However, the colours do change when I press hard enough on my LCD.

Wouldn't it have the same effect on both squares thus neutrazlizing the effect?

I used yellow post-it notes and they looked pretty darn similar if not the same color when I coverd up the rest of the image.

Here's how you can tell for sure:

Copy/paste the image into MS paint, and erase the entire image aside from those two squares, then put them next to eachother.

Turns out they are the same. This idea will prove it without any possible argument.

Quite an illusion x_x

I do a lot of home theater work on the side, especially custom painted projection screens. I can tell you first hand that color perception is one of the most difficult things to explain to people. Our eyes, as brilliant as they are, can very easily be fooled.

Whoa! I did the MS paint thing too. Crazy. That sidewalk art is insane though.

WOW! That explains all the 300+ yd drives that folks with 20+ handicaps are claiming.
