There's just so much wrong with this news story.

DANIA BEACH, Fla. -- Two people on a motorcycle have died after being hit by a car driving in the wrong direction in Dania Beach.

Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sergeant Mark Wysocky says the driver of the motorcycle, Erick Tenaille, died at the scene. His passenger, Shaina Scott, died at the hospital.

FHP says Larry Ranko was driving the wrong way on Interstate 95 early this morning when his car hit the motorcycle. Both victims were thrown from the bike.

Wysocky says troopers are investigating to see if the victims were wearing helmets at the time. Charges are pending.

Let's see. You're on a motorcycle and you get hit head-on, by a car, on an interstate highway. And some knucklehead reporter wants to shift blame to the guy on the bike?

"They might have survived if they had been wearing helmets."

The guy in the truck has half a ton of steel, plus airbags to protect him. The fellows on the motorcycle have zero.

I barely read the news anymore as most of it pisses me off, because it's either inflated, or watered down. I rather hear first hand.

you sure they dont mean charges are pending for the guy driving the truck?? because that sounds like almost the most idiotic thing ive ever heard if not..

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Ambiguous writing, sensationalism, and conclusions without fact. Just a sad commentary on the state of journalism.

I'm sure they do mean that charges against the driver of the car are pending.

Just as I'm pretty sure the reporter asked the cops whether the motorcyclists were wearing helmets. So that he could imply that they might have stood a chance if they had been.

Maybe I'm reading something into it that I shouldn't be. Just seemed like an odd statement.

definately poor journalism there.. he should have definately put the charges are pending in a different line/spot.

i do think though that he was fine to ask if they were wearing helmets. while they would not have likely lived(people have lived trying to commit suicide by jumping off the golden gate bridge before), i guess it raises awareness and a level of fear in some bikers for some to wear helmets..

I don't want to get started here on the "helmet law" thing, but I'll just say that it should be up to the person(s) riding..........not mandated by law.

imo if it takes an investigation to determine if someone was wearing a helmet it probably wouldnt have mattered.
