HAROLD THE COMPUTER GUY

I was having trouble with my computer.
So I called Harold, the computer guy, to come over.
Harold clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem.
He gave me a bill for a minimum service call.

As he was walking away, I called after him, "So, what was wrong?"

He replied, "It was an ID ten T error."
I didn't want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired, "An ID ten T Error? What's that . In case I need to fix it again?"

Harold grinned.... "Haven't you ever heard of an ID ten T error before?"

"No," I replied.

"Write it down," he said, "and I think you'll figure it out."

So I wrote it down.

I D 1 0 T

I used to like Harold...

Funny.
I'm taking computer science at university next year, in my life time I've fixed countless ID10T errors.

Funny, so am I, and I am ether going to Glasgow or Stirling Uni, where are you going? I am renowned around my friends as a bit of a computer troubleshooter, and I have also fixed many ID10T errors. The best one being why isn't there any sound coming from this video on my computer - "because you have the speaks on mute".

The ID10T error is a common gag... I personally prefer the problem was between the chair and the keyboard.

Computer Science huh wirehair??? If you ever want to get out of the teaching biz and into software development let me know.

... as a Programmer/Analyst I always preferred the term "FUBAR".

It always would amaze me the percent of Programmers, Engineers and Comp Sci majors you would meet that had no clue how to effectively operate a PC. However brilliant they were when it came to doing their job.

Are you stalking me I applied to both those Universities, I hope to get into Glasgow. They have great links with industry, not as good as my links though I'm close freinds with the UK director of the largest privatly owned software company. Did you go to the glasgow open day?

I ended up getting my CCNA and C+, and was helping people with their computer problems for a while.

Sooooo sick of it, so I decided to try something else.

LOL, the fees in Scotland are £1,000 compared to over £3,000 anywhere else in the UK, and I have always liked Scotland. Yea they both seem good uni', Glasgow being the better IMO. I didn't go to the Glasgow open day, but I was at Stirling uni last year visiting a friend and the facilities there are amazing, including a 9 hole golf course and driving range. But good luck getting on the golf team, my friend who plays of scratch and for his county didn't get on Stirling's golf team, they are amazing.

That was the more common one from my younger days, growing up as an Army Brat

Funny thinking about these, as FUBAR was in the old Vax-11 help files, as well as one of my other favorites, the infamous "Wombat". People never usually understood my pilgrimage towards having parties in recognition to Groundhog Day. Like 223 days before Groundhog Day. I think the dreaded Wombat and strange associations after about 10 drinks may explain part of this. Although it is and always was just an inside joke that never escaped my own mind. Usually just said it seemed like a reasonable theme for wanting to gather and drink.
