Baseball

It looks to me that this game has devolved into a contest where a pitcher on steroids is attempting to throw a spitter past a batter, also on steroids. The batter (using a corked bat) wants to hit the juiced baseball between two outfielders also on steroids.

And Bud Selig still has his head stuck in a dark moist place.

LOL - what a great game!

Might as well let them all juice if you can't police it, at least that was it's "fair"

Don't for one second think that baseball is alone in the performance enhancing stage.

If Mitchell had the opportunity, he'd deface every major sport out there, including horse racing.

What I find humorous is that they are taking these medals and records from these athletes, and giving them to the second place people, who probably were on the same shit!

I personally think MLB should hire an independent council to investigate Congress, than report all the heresay and fact they find. Of course, you'd need an entire forest of trees for that report.

Baseball players have never been known for being "upstanding citizens" - I listened to many a radio broadcast when Dizzy Dean would get happily sloshed while broadcasting - "Crack me open another Falstaff there, PeeWee".

Mickey, Whitey and Billy had their moments, but Fork Frick would bring them back to earth. Kennesaw Mountain Landis busted the white Sox (Black Sox) big time. Pete Rose is still anathema to baseball. Selig is the personal property of the Owners, unless the Players Union wants a piece of his ass. The man should have grown some stones a long time ago.

I have to come to the point were I don't care what they take or do. I don't care if college players get payed or go to class. Just play the game and let me enjoy the game.

Its not just baseball players using steroids. And detecting their illegal use is becoming more difficult. When big $$$$$$ come to bear whether its steroid use or covert filming of other teams signals there will a desire to get an edge over the competition. Why do we "ho" so many clubs???????

Did you see the Myth Busters episode on corked bats? They could not determine a performance benefit.

Love that thought of steroid laden pitcher throwing to steroid laden batter while we watch the manager spitting (in mock disgust?????). Its so ironic.

Marion Jones recently gave up Olympic Gold Metals because of confessed steroid use. Did she also give up monetary gains she got from her enhanced performances? Oops I did wrong. Heres my metals. See Ya. Romanowski same issue. Lost future earning but still a rich man. They going to take Roger Clemens house away from him. Didn't do that to McGuire. So it becomes a game of cat and mouse with the abuser walking away with a slap on the wrist.

Have not heard anyone from the NBA getting caught. Are they Noble and above the fray???? Boxing??? Tennis???Horse racing???Soccer???Those pro slow-pitch softball players????

With all these problems why not issue steroids for all Pro athletes. They would be so outraged at being forced to consume these "dangerous" drugs the Union contracts would forbid the practice. Self policing.

Baseball used to be my favorite sporting event to attend. I would go to maybe 10 to 20 games a season, and watched hundreds a year on TV. Which was quite a bit back then considering we were always broke and struggling to get through college.

After the strike shortened season when they canceled the World Series, I swore I would not pay to go back or even watch the games on TV until all the players were out, and most of the owners were gone. To top it off they still have the entire mockery surrounding appointing Selig as the Commissioner. I have sense only gone back to games where we had free tickets in a Penthouse suite and had free beer and food, enjoyed the company, and we usually watched a Hockey game on the TV. Towards the end of that season, they realized this was becoming common and blacked out the Hockey games in the Penthouses. Which made it all the more funny, when they then had emptied penthouse suites. I couldn't even tell who won or even who the other team was at the time. Funny part is, I don't really miss the game. Could probably only name a handful of players in the league. I figure the initial post nailed it, with exception to the fact that you more importantly have over paid owners and over paid prima donna players that took what was once a family watched sport and Americas pastime and showed how little they really care about the fans who are responsible for allowing them to make millions doing something they should love. Not that other sports are much better, but when you end up canceling the prime part of what fans wait the entire year for, you should be happy if the fans would pay a wooden nickel to ever watch you play again.

If they ever manage to dump Selig in an attempt to show they really are interested in the good of the sport and the fans, I may go back. They really should have thought more of giving the job to Costas, and done whatever necessary to draw him into the position.

I used to be a HUGE fan of baseball. I collected cards and watched a ton of Yankee games on TV. My parents never had the money to take my brother and I to a bunch of games, but I went to a few. When the strike happened in, what was it 1994, it changed my level of passion. It was just not the same after that. I came back to being a fan eventually but never with the same fervor. Once I got back into golf big time I lost most of my interest in baseball. I would only really pay attention during the post season and then only to the highlights on sportscenter. It was just boring to me.

I love golf, and we complain that the pros are all robots. At least they are not getting busted for steroids, DUI's and whatever other felonies some of these pro athletes have been busted for in the last few years. Tiger Woods is one of the last true role models in sports today. There are others, but Tiger is first in my mind.
