Latest Ho....Digital Camera

Well a week before the PGA Show and I decide its time to buy a better digital camera so I can get some better photos on the web site than last year's show.

Canon Rebel XTi

Here are a few shots of my new Shottalk hat with the new camera:

The 2008 Hat:

The 2008 Hat and 2007 Hat Front:

And the backs of both hats:

I could not use the full 10 mega pixel images (too large to download to the site) so I really shrank these photos down to see how they would appear on the web site.

I think images posted from the gallery now come up as thumbnails. If you click on the image it will open the gallery for a more realistic photo size.

Not at this time. I am pretty happy with my 52*/58* gap at the moment. Never had a lot of luck with the 56* for whatever reason. Besides, gotta pay for the camera now.

Nah, you need an image stabalized Macro.

Could not pass up the deal, but it came with the 18-55 lens.

I have the 28-80 and 75-300 from my EOS Elan that I have been playing around with today. I will bring all 3, but I am trying to find out which works best for the low light close ups. Right now I am leaning toward the 28-80, but have not tried the 75-300 yet.

I just bought the Sigma 20-40mm f/2.8 EX DG aspherical. I ordered it red-label, and it's supposedly in stock. I hope it's here by Wednesday.

f/2.8 throughout the range sounds good to me. The 17-40mm f.4 Canon cost $1300.00. This was 1/3 of that, and got a good review.

Nice camera, I love my Digital Rebel. Although mine is only 6mp, it is pretty much close enough to negative quality for my needs, anything more would likely just be overkill for me.

FYI, on a 6mp I convert them to 25% at a later time and it works well for this site and what you see with most of my pictures, so that may give you an idea how far you need to go with 10mp.

Another thing is, you can pick up a Rebel SLR standard film for less than $200, I think I got mine for $140. Gives you a body that will use the same lenses. Not that I ever use the thing but it is nice for conditions where I do not want to risk using the digital or carrying it around. Body is small and fits nicely into the same bag. Although if it is a choice between another lens and the body, I may go with the lens.

Nice pickup, I bought my wife one for Christmas last year and she loves it, I do too actually. The thing takes AWESOME pictures. You actually have to be a little carefull when using it to take pics of clubs, it sometimes picks up more than the naked eye can see...

I went to 25% on the 10mp on my Renegade pics and they loaded just fine to the site. The Hat pics were at 17% if I recall correctly.

I have a regular film Canon EOS Elan than I have had since 1993. That was one of the biggest reasons for going to the XTi. I had already started my lens collection.

Yupper, if you look closely on the Renegade Pics you can see just how poorly I started swinging this afternoon.

I went conservative with the 2007 design as I did not know what to expect at the show. This year, I figured I would add a little color and a little flash to the hat so that it would get noticed a bit more. Its dark inside the convention center, I needed to brighten it up a bit.

Maybe you can teach me a thing or two about the XTi at the show. Fairly similar to my experience with the EOS Elan, but there is a lot more to the Digital camera than with the film versions. Auto modes work just fine from my experiments, just need some more time to start messing around into the partial manual modes. Never found a need to go fully manual on the Elan. Too many opportunities for mistakes for this particular operator.

Good deal, I have been an avid Photographer for years, and as part I usually keep my equipment for a long time. So unfortunately when I got my Digital Rebel it was not compatible with the old FD lens structure of my AE-1 that I have had since 1983. I never really saw the need to upgrade as I just had this image that if I ever bought a camera with Programmable features, I would get lazy and forget how to use it manually. So the non programmable AE-1 served me well. My only other SLR was a circa 66' FT that my father let me start using back in 75-76 and up until I got out of high school, when he bought me the AE1 as a graduation gift. He later gave me the FT around 1990. I actually rarely recall using much color film until about that time, I just preferred B&W and bulk rolled my own film and always kept B&W in the camera. When getting the FT, I would keep color in it but still not likely use it that much except when on vacation or taking family pictures.

Tells you a little bit about the Canon product on only owning using two SLR's over a span of 42 years. They both still work extremely well, although the FT used Mercury Batteries for the light meter, but fortunately you can use Zinc Air replacements. The AE-1 still looks and works like brand new after 25 years of use. I still have a good selection of lenses for each and use them a bit. I usually keep Black and white film in the AE-1 and color in the FT. Although now having the Rebel body I usually only use the AE-1 for Black and white, which I always preferred.

So I am expecting my current Digital Rebel will last me quite a while, although it remains to be seen if the Digital Technology can withstand 20-25 years of use.

I guess you can tell I am not much of a camera ho.

I wanna see Rock fit 42 years worth of golf club ho's on 1/4 of his kitchen table.

I guess he could, but it would likely be 4200 feet high and the table would need to be made out of Titanium

Unfortunately I had to use the crappy camera on my phone to take the picture. Not quite fitting
