Anyone familiar with Puerto Rico?

I need a change.

Business is sucky and doesn't look to get better anytime soon.

Good government job opening in Puerto Rico, that will pay $80K.

Would I hate it or love it there?

The TV ads look like I would love it, but that's TV..............

Wow - that is a loaded question. I've been there once, and I'm going back for a week on the 25th. PR to me is a "one-and-a-half world country" (not fully developed, but not third world). San Juan is a bustling and vibrant city. Fifty miles away are villages still living in the bronze age. Vieques is where I want to retire (if I had the money to buy property there today, I would...) The south coast is very nice.

When the police pull people over, they have M-16's at the ready.

It's the Caribbean. Beautiful beaches and blue, blue water. $80K would be a decent wage there.

You need to speak espanol.

Would I live there instead of Tampa? Nope.

Augusta? Only you can answer that.

I've heard it's high crime away from the beaches and tourist areas... and then the hurricanes...

And just move to Racine Wisconsin and my wife will support you with our 2 damn RagDoll cats' minor problems.

I've spent some time there...mostly in San Juan, Mayaguez, and Fajardo. I'll put it this way, some places are great to visit...the rest, not so much.

Been to PR 4 times.

It's EXPENSIVE. Not if you are doing touristy stuff, but general cost of living, gas etc.

80k there would be like 55 here. Housing is rediculous in San Juan.

Move the Racine, WI. Home of the January tornados. At least in the tropics, you know the hurricane is coming.

This job is in Arecibo. All I know about Arecibo is that the observatory is near there. That thing is so darn big that it has it's own shadow on Google Earth.

I probably won't apply, as I'm too darn lazy to sell my house, 2/3 of my stuff, and move the rest.

75°F on a beach sounded good right in the middle of January, though, didn't it?

Arecibo is the Bronze Age village I was telling you about. I drove there from San Juan. The dish was pretty cool, but the surrounding area is all brightly painted shacks with chickens and rusted out autos.

Think Deliverance - but without the banjo.

Bronze Age, eh? Well, at least I wouldn't have to reinvent fire.

Brightly painted shacks with chickens and rusted out autos.....are you sure you weren't in Augusta?

Deliverance without the banjo.....as long as I get to be Burt Reynolds I'm cool with that. Rockford can play the part of "Squeal like a pig!" Beatty.
