Plumbing question - BOB?

Does anyone know what the short spout is in this picture just below the copper straping? I'm guessing it's a cleanout.

I'm going with this rough in because the new washing machine's pump overflows the standpipe. Pain in the ass.

If anyone has a clue what this is for, let me know, I'd appreciate it.

Do you have city sewer or a septic tank?

The stub is for a drain line from a sink (hot/cold supply plus a drain).
If you have septic tank.....get it pumped out.

Sewer. I've snaked it (twice) and it's clean as a whistle.

Sink drop, never thought of that. Duh.

Right now, I'm tied straight into the drain from the sink upstairs. Apparently, this doesn't allow for good ventilation, so the "D" configuration shown is an end around that new rough ins eliminate. It's not that big of a job because it's wide open in my basement, just more of a pain.

Thanks Bob.

We've had good luck running the washing machine into a tub and that drains as fast as it wants into the sewer.

I have a cleanout right beside the washing machine, i was thinking of just directly firing it in there.

Bob, wouldn't that bypass in the drain line cause a problem?

Well, put the anti-syphoning setup pictured above in with no luck. Stand pipe still overflows.

After doing some more research, the volume of water that the new machine expells is too much for 1.5" PVC, it requires 2" minimum. That's super sweet.

I'm trying one more thing, otherwise I'm installing a 3" stack with reducers down to 1.5". Apparently, this is another option.

This thing pumps water like there's no tommorrow. It's 4.5 cubic feet and it empties in about 12 seconds. Our old washer took about 14 hours to empty.

Install one of those fiberglass slop sinks and let the washer drain into that.

I think this is the way to go for sure - plus, they're great for cleaning golf clubs and paint rollers and all sorts of other crap

unfortunately, if I put one in, it would be about 5 feet high in my basement and completely useless to me - I had to build a platform for the washer because of the height of the drain (no way was I spending $200 on a pedestal)

I would but there's no room on that side of the washer. Water Softner is plumbed in right there and Deep Freeze is just left of the dryer.

I think I have it licked tho. Stay tuned. (Cuz I know you're dying to know what happens...)

I could hardly sleep last night and yet here I sit disappointed that the case of the mysterious washing machine overflow problem hasn't been solved. Hurry and post something dammit!!
