    Some very hairy landings

Scared to fly? Might not want to watch this! No crashes, but some scenes where you know the passengers were FREAKING SCARED.

Turn the audio down, since it's nothing but a REALLY annoying french song.

Long video, but there are some pretty awesome clips in there...

That's a testament to how strong the landing gear is. It seems like it should just snap from those planes landing sideways.

Amen to that. And how good those pilots are.

I landed a Cessna 172 XP like that once (well, twice if you count the bounce.) No one who saw the landing would even consider me a good pilot, they just referred to me as either "lucky" or "stupid".

I actually think that the flying sideways like that is almost normal, there were probably some pretty strong crosswinds when they were landing, and for some reason I thought that is what is supposed to be done, however, I am not a pilot, so I could be very wrong.

No, you're right. They have to fly sideways. It's called "crabbing".

Those were some really strong winds though, and they tested the pilot's (and passenger's) nerves.

  7. You can simulate that in Microsoft's flight simulator.

And some of the strongest steels known to man are used in those axles and landing gear parts for obvious reasons.
