I always wonder what the American members on here would make of the Top Gear special when they bought cars in Miami and made a road trip over to New Orleans!!!

That had to be one the funniest and yet scariest TV programs ever made!

That was AWESOME! I wish we got Top Gear here. One of the best ones I saw was when Clarkson rode the 2nd seat in a helicopter outfitted with dual mini-guns, and had someone else remote-pilot a 1984 Corvette (a true POS, and Clarkson HATES Vettes).

Here's the clip. It's 8 minutes long, and the chase doesnt start until the 5 minute mark, but the wait is worth it...

I love when Clarkson rolls into camp with the dead cow on top of his car.

You can get it in America if you subscribe to BBC America, and I think Discovery Channel were showing 'Americanized' versions of the show - featuring re-recorded links to put prices in dollars, or to make sense of some of the references in the porgrammes for an American audience - but only sporadically and not for a few series now.

There is supposedly an American version of the show in production for NBC, which is going to be called 'Gear'. The problem is that they want to tinker with it to 'make it more American' which means it'll probably lose the spirit and feel of the original, which is basically why the original is so good! It will also have totally different presenters, as Jeremy Clarkson refused to meet their demands that he move to the US for the filming and promotion of the show. From what I remember reading I think only 'The Stig' was going to remain from the British version, but I'd suspect they'll try and bring over a few of the features and bits of the format. Somehow I can't imagine it being anywhere near as good, and certainly not as willing to take on the car manufacturers or government when it thinks they're doing something wrong.

If you're into bittorrents there are sites dedicated just to Top Gear and its offshoots, while you can also find whole episodes online to watch on your computer if you search around for them.

Personally the race across Europe with Clarkson in the Ferrari was my favorite episode - the sight of May and Hammond having travelled thousands of miles and being just yards away from the finishing line as Clarkson zoomed around the corner to beat them was incredible!
