Thread: Uploading Website - help required

  1. Uploading Website - help required

Ok here is my situation, I have just finsihed my website, I have 10 html files, a load of images and two css files. I need to upload the website live to the internet for testing purposes. I don't need a good url or good web hosting. I am just looking for something free that will host my website. All of my webpages were created in notepad, what would be the best way to upload all of these files, and is it hard?

    Regards

  3. I have dreamweaver, but I was taught to code html rather than rely on a machine to do it for me, and I personally find that dreamweavers design view is useless and it produces very bloated code. I just stick to notepad simple but does what I need. Thanks for the link, does that website allowed you to upload a site you have already made?

  4. I teach this stuff, and can steer you to a couple of places, but your ISP usually will provide some free web server space. As far as uploading, you can do it with IE.

You might also want to rethink the Dreamweaver thing, it's the tool of choice for a vast majority of professionals. It's the ease of maintenance and speed of development that sell it.
It must be awful to have to work for a living.

  5. I dislike using Dreamweaver aswell but have taught myself to persevere. Google offer free hosting but its designed for the average person instead of people that can write their own HTML.

Good for you, that'll actually give you completely control over your design.

Yahoo has a free service where you can upload a complete website just copying and pasting your HTML into it. The free portion of course comes with a price, you'll have to allow an advertisement on the page.

Click link above once you've signed up to upload all of your pages here.

Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket
Use any site similar to the one above to upload all of your images.

I'd consider trying that out, but like somebody has already said...most likely your ISP gives you free webspace.

  7. Thanks guys, PhillyEagle thanks very much for the link yahoo does exactly what I need it to do, very easy to upload all my files, no FTP or anything required. I will post the link to my site when I get my hundreds of images uploaded and links sorted out, cheers again guys.

  8. Ok got the home page uploaded, most of the links in the menu are still dead because I haven't had the time to upload everything.

What do you think of my first project? It is a project for school, and my website is at a much higher level than anyone else in the class, because most people do not posses even average web deisgn skills,, so I am quite happy with the outcome so far.Click here

Any feedback, on colours or layout?

    Regards

you can just download and install apache and host/test it locally. Or if you are just worried about testing it to see how it will look, just open up your html in a browser, no need to have it hosted

  13. BTW - I wouldn't reload the entire page if you are just going to be displaying text. Store it all in a data island or something and have JS dynaically paint the bottom window, or use frames or something. Reloading the entire screen looks so 1997

Cheers I installed xampp, so I can now test locally. So how exactly do I fix this so it does not reload the whole pagw?

Put the titlebar in a frame separate from the rest of the page is the easiest. No borders, no resize etc.
