New car, so much for mileage

A guy I work with lives close to the shop and saw a car for sale right next door to him. He said, "It's a Mitsubishi something..." I said "Eclipse?", he said "no, sort of looks like one but bigger"... I knew what it had to be so worth a look.

I checked the car out, a 1993 but in pretty decent shape, went to drop the truck off and came back. The kid who owns it goes to one of those Technical Schools to be a mechanic, big $$ mechanic. He bought the car at the end of the summer and went through it this winter. He's got reciepts for timing belt, clutch, valves, head gasket, ball joints the works. He did a lot of work on this car over the winter and it seems to be running very well. Also seems like a good kid as well.

He was asking $3000 for the car and I got him to not only to go to $2500 but also he's going to take my Civic and knock off another $200. I went and got $1500 and will give him the other $800 this coming week.

3.0 liter high output V6, 5speed, moonroof, 18" factory wheels I believe? Spoiler, ground effects factory and a white that looks like smoke grey when its darker out. It should do about 120... in 3rd.

Guess what it is?

Well, the Galant was only available with a 2.0l inline-4. The Diamante had the 3.0l V-6, but didn't have a factory spoiler or GE package like the Galant.

Is it the (drumroll please) 3000GT SL? Or (please, please) the 3000GT VR-4?

Think faster, much faster. It has a back seat but it's pretty well useless. Sits about 3" lower to the ground than my Civic. Oh, and dual exhaust, 2 3" chrome cans sticking out each side in the back.

Bingo. This thing should be fun. She seems to run like a top, a steal at the price IMO. I'll probably play around with it for a few months and then get rid of it before next winter.

Kid i used to go to highschool with had a 3000GT VR4 TT, absolutly gorgeous, black on black with chrome rims...i would have given a left nut for this car...and the right one too if they asked...

He asked me to ride with him one time and i turned him down as i knew he was kind of crazy (and crazy + twin turbos = bad idea), about three months into having the car he wrapped it around a tree at about 130 and killed himself and his girlfriend.

Ez, that center pedal is called a "brake". It's used to keep you from running over innocent children and pretty girls with large boobs. Please use it once in a while.

I edited my post. I thought the 3000GT came out in 1994 (about the same time MCDavis came out) but I see it was 1991.

BTW Jayhawk - the Diamante did have a 3.0l V-6 in 1993.

Good score. Should be loads of fun.

Good call, Ezra. You don't want an Eclipse, anyway, it's a chick car.

I'm saving for a Aston-Martin DBS.

Only things I came out of in 1994 was college, my 20's, and being childless. Went back to school late in life with a goal of graduating before I turned 30. Walked out of my last exam in August, turned 30 in September, and my 1st daughter was born July, 1995...you do the math.

Don't worry, I've been a truck driver for years. I'll get on it once in a while but I don't plan on going crazy with it. 100 is my personal limit now and that's on the highway, clear straight stretch. I'll take a car up to 100 but no more and usually that's just for a few seconds then back off it. This car is 1993, no matter how much work has been done, I don't trust a 15yr. old car to be taken up to high speeds. It's more for looks anyway, it's only got like 220hp..
