Question Is there anything else?

My internet has really been sluggish lately. I've ran AVG and AD ware scans. I've ran a Microsoft one care scan, cleaned out the temp files, cookies, defragmented, scanned registry for invalid items, cleaned out the log on my internet. I use Alltel as an internet, and a phone as a modem and cleaned out the sent data on the phone and still it isn't nearly as fast. Do you guys thinking uninstalling and reinstalling the Alltel programs would do anything? I'm out of options.

What kind of system are you running? I don't know the specific names...but what GHZ are you running at, how much RAM and such?

Did you do the Firefox configurations I posted a while ago?

Do you run a lot of background programs while surfing the net?

What speed is your internet in mBPS?

Pay a couple bucks and get AdwareAlert. That sucker finds stuff none of the others do. I've got RoadRunner so when mine (seldom) slows down it's always spyware.

I'm running a Intel Celeron D processor 2.66 GHz, 2.67 GHz 768mb ram.
I used the Fire Fox thing, but it is slow on Internet Explorer, Safari, Fire Fox, and Net Scape. I usually only run iTunes while searching. I'm not sure where to find the internet speed.

Are you running any file sharing P2P programs like Bearshare, Kazaa or limewire. Those kill your system speed, also how many toolbars are you using like google or yahoo.

I have lime wire but usually I exit when I am not using it. I only have the google toolbar on just Fire Fox.

Is your computer loaded with programs that you don't use?

Such as all the browsers you listed?

Give your computer a thorough cleaning. Delete old programs you don't use. After that do a defragment and a system clean or disk clean. Can't quite remember what it's called.

After that, if you want, change which programs run at start up.

By doing this, you should gain noticeable speed in your computer. This will utilize your disk space and RAM.

Well it is more my internet that is slow not the computer it self. I even contacted Alltel and they didn't have an answer for me. I guess I could get rid of quite a few program though.

Yeah Post 900.

My internet was slowed down by a crowded computer too.

I'm running Linux Ubuntu right now though. I'm loving every minute of it. Fast as hell.

Its though a phone so the phone is the modem, you plug the phone into the USB plug and it connects though it like that. Its wireless because if you plugged it into a laptop you could connect anywhere the network is available.

Do you think that history in Fire Fox would slow it down? I cleared a lot of it up to 5 days ago. I could probably get rid of more because I never look at it. King Par I know my internet says 3g or something like that, I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

So is it dial up or broadband? I know when I had the phone company "high speed" it was slower than the cable at cetain times. Theirs depended on how many people in the area were using it. The cable company is "true" broadband.

My computer itself is running sluggish. I've got this annoying pop-up problem. It's the same stupid ones and trys to open a new web page. I've got pop up blocker but its getting by that, I've run Spybot and Norton, neither are picking it up. It's got to be a program that got slipped in with some BS I or my GF downloaded, hence why its the same ridiculous pop-ups. I'm in fear that the "pop up" could actually be some sort of connection that's being used to get into my computer from another one. Like the pop up is really just allowing the connection via the internet and it's actually being sent out from my computer.

I would try AVG, and the new AD ware, I've herd bad things about Norton. Well it has to connect to the internet but doesn't make the sound of a phone dialing like our true dial up did.

How are you doing this? The reason I ask is there is an option "Tools>Clear Private Data" to do this or simply hit "Ctrl+SHIFT+DEL" to pull up the same menu. If you are using another method, try this method.

Also be certain to delete all the files out of all of your Temp directories. This would not only include the Windows>Temp directory, but there are also temp directories associated with the profiles on the computer. Depends on the version of windows to their location, but usually under the profile name then something like "USER>**YOUR PROFILE NAME**>APPDATA>LOCAL>TEMP" (for Vista), I believe XP it was under the something like Windows>Documents and settings>**YOUR PROFILE NAME**>Local>temp. Although you could just do a search for "Temp" and look for the directory with your user name in the directory chain.

Also, I have not used dial up in about 12-15 years, but if you set this up via a USB as you indicated, you may also need to check how it sets up the port. Where many times when a PC sets up a port, it has a designation for speed, which will many times default to 9600 to assure that it will work. Although in doing so, it will on transmit at 9600. So track down the port and check this setting further. You will likely find it in device manager under either Communicatation ports or USB Ports, or the documentation for the driver and software may tell you. This depends. Sometimes a USB or Bluetooth device like this will set it up with a Com port designation then specify in the settings it is USB, as opposed to just a USB device. If it did it this way, chances are very good it defaulted to 9600. Just bump it to "Maximum", and if that caused the device to not work, just lower to the highest setting that works. Where you likely want at least 115k

Also, for if the problem still exists, be sure to post what version and service pack of Windows that you use, assuming this is even a Windows based PC because of your mention of One care. Which would also likely lead me to believe this may be Vista. Further list if you are set up with Administrative privileges for your User. When the issue started to happen, they just had a Service Pack 1 auto update for Vista recently. Did it start after that, or was it all along?
