New Furnace

We just had a new furnace installed today. I have gone downstairs 4 times already to make sure that it's still working because it's so damn quiet compared to the old horse we had in there before.

This new unit has adjusting valves, so it heats more evenly throughout the day without waves of hot and cold. I really like it.

Big dollars tho. But it'll pay for itself in no time.

Its nice when big purchases will pay for themselves with the money you save...too bad cars dont do that...well, i suppose they kinda do, if i didnt have my car iwouldnt be able to get to the job i have(or to get to the schooling i needed for it) ...thus wouldnt have money to payfor it...so i guess it kinda does

Give us the specs(if you want to) i am going to be replacing ours probably either next spring or the one after as the one in the house is over 30 years old. Still runs like a champ but is probably as efficient as a fire in the living room.

Make sure you change the filters on schedule. If you don't they shut off.

Safety thing I guess.

Oh yeah, makes sense...i would much rather my furnace shut off and not blow dirty air in my house while i am on vacation and forgot to change the filter, and have all my pipes break and flood the house...yeah, thats sooo much better than dirty air....

Really, that doesn't make much sense at all...this could potentially kill an elderly person that doesnt have the ability to get downstairs to change the filter in cold weather...freezing to death...and thats no joke in some parts of the world.

Fireplaces are the biggest money wasters ever. All the heat you generate in the house goes up the chimney.

The furnace we bought was a Lennox G71. It's nominal 42,000BTU, 75,000max. 95% efficient and as quiet as anything.

We invested in a HEPA/HVAC inline filter box. $150 a year for filters, but runs 16 on the MERV scale. That should make a huge difference. Supposed to replace them every 12-14 months, depending on how dirty/clean it is. Year one is the worst, i'm told.

Wow, isn't that a little furnace for such a cold climate? How many square feet do you have?
