UPSTATE NY WOMEN

Three
men were sitting together bragging about how they had given duties to
their new wives.

The
first man had married a woman from South Dakota and had told her that
she was going to do dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days,
but on the third day he came home to a clean house and dishes washed and
put away.

The
second man had married a woman from Nebraska. He had given his wife
orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes, and the cooking. The
first day he didn't see any results, but the next day he saw that it was
better. By the third day, he saw that his house was clean, the dishes
were done, and there was a huge dinner on the table.

The
third man had married a woman from Upstate New York. He told her that
her duties were to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed,
laundry washed and hot meals on the table for every meal. The first day
he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything, but by
the third day some of the swelling had gone down, and he could see a
little out of his left eye, enough to fix himself a bite to eat and load
the dishwasher.

A few years ago I flew in (and later out) of the New Jersey airport. New Jersey people are NOT happy people. It's like they're all po'ed about having to live there. Crabby, snotty, scowling a**holes. EVERY one of them in that airport. I hope the rest of the NJ population isn't like that....

Ha! This is so true. Unlike Virginia, where everyone seems very pleasant and happy. We're somewhere in the middle in PA. I guess there are a-holes everywhere.

Sorry to say, the rest are. As well as NY. You forgot to add ".....and they think they are superior to everyone else, especially those that do no live in NY or NJ".

I can't wait to move out of this dump!

That's because a lot of the people using Newark are wannabe Manhattanites who can't afford to live in the city and therefore fly from Newark rather than JFK or La Guardia.

Sadly New Jersey suffers horrendously from having it's main arrival point (Newark Airport) being slap bang on the doorstep of the most deprived city in the whole state (Camden might beg to differ, I admit) and being surrounded by nothing but industry, meaning most visitors who arrive here and head straight into Manhattan just see one big industrial mess.

Where I live, only about 40 minutes north of Newark on the edge of the big suburban sprawl, is beautiful, with nice hills, forests and lakes and countryside just a walk away. Down where Greydawg lives is totally different, but equally nice, with rolling hills and some beautiful golf courses. Then there's the shore, which is a great place to spend some time, and Cape May down in the south, which is a wonderful place to explore and visit.

I know I'm a transplanted NJ-er, and not even originally from the same country let alone the same state, but it's really depressing to see how bad a press NJ gets based entirely on a 10 mile long, 1 mile wide strip between Newark Airport and Manhattan.

Oh, and I think you're all just jealous because we don't have to get out of the car when it's wet or freezing cold and we want to fill up with gas...

one of the things I miss most about NJ....

It was nice to be 45 minutes (with traffic) to NYC, 45 minutes to the Poconos, and ~45 minutes to the shore. that said, there are just too many people in north jersey and I just couldn't go back

I want to go far away for college just to experience something else, but I'm 95% sure I'll be coming back to NJ for good.

When my daughter was at West Point I went to the "Plebe Parents Week" thing and that airport is NOT in a nice area. I went to get my rental car at some fly-by-night cheap outfit and we're going under the superhighways in some NASTY parts of town in the middle of the night. I mean, there was a big stretch limo driving around probably making some big drug deal and their were bars on windows and high fences around everything. I got my rental car and the steering column was ripped apart from someone trying to steal it. It was one of the most un-nerving experiences of my life. I thought I was going to die.

I think you nailed that one dead on. I have never been a big fan of NYC, and when we lived down towards Philly, I used to have to drive through Camden every day to get to work in Cherry Hill. My comment when people asked if I wanted to go to NYC for a weekend was, "Why do I need to hop in a car and drive 2 1/2 hours when I simply need to cross the bridge into Camden to see crime, rape and murder" I have also done work in Newark, as well as using the airport when I can't get direct flights out of Allentown or if we can save over $100. In Newark, you should be really thankful if you lay over that you do not have to leave security and all the people have passed through metal detectors. People from KS think Topeka is bad, where it could be considered a resort town to many around the major cities of NJ. Which likely have some of the more depressed economies of any where I have ventured. Although Gary, IN may get my vote as one of the scariest places I have traveled during my life or through business.

Or as the my favorite comment would go.... "Committing suicide in Newark or Camden is redundant"

edit 1 - ... also word of advice, if you ever get a connecting flight through Newark, to places like Allentown or even possibly other close by cities, be aware when you see the word "Bus" in the terminology for the flight, there is a very valid reason for that, and don't expect it to have wings just because you booked with an airline

I've lived in Jersey my whole life. Grew up in Morris County and spent 6 years in Hudson County. The differences that can be noticed by driving 45 miles west of Hudson County are amazing.

I think too many people base their opinions of this state on flying into Newark or watching The Sopranos.

I spent a week in Tennessee right after Thanksgiving... and these people pride themselves on courtesy. Problem is, 90% of them are worse than anybody I've ever had to deal with in Jersey.

While I will not deny that there are a lot of people with attitude issues here... the same can be said almost anywhere in the United States.

Plus, as far as golf is concerned... there are plenty of really, really nice courses to choose from, especially the further south you get in the state.

Just sayin'.
