Why is that disgusting? The guy made money selling oil to countries that are too stupid to realize their dependence on fossil fuels and continue to sell V8 powered cars at the lowest prices possible.

He's done nothing wrong. Not my taste in cars personally, but it could have been worse.

I mean, he could have white rhino's fighting pandas or grizzly bears on an offshore international fighting right mounted on the deck of a boat.

Not that i've thought about it.

Apologist attitudes like that are what encourage people like him to keep raping common sense. We're stuck with a petroleum-based economy. I don't have a problem with trying to economize where possible. I'd feel a lot better about the wealthy if they would stop laughing at our pathetic attempts to scrimp and save, while they spend obscene (yes, obscene) amounts of money on shit like this.

I don't agree that this really ugly car is a reason for high gas prices. Rather, I think it is a consequence of high gas prices.

What has driven up oil prices in the last couple of years is speculation; @$$holes buying oil futures at record levels, and the growing oil consumption of China.

There is very little more oil to be had, therefore the oil supply (as we know it) is pretty well represented by a zero elasticity model. Prices can go up, and up, and up, and the supply still will not increase (much).

I'm really surprised that gasoline has not yet hit $5 per gallon here in the USA. I feel sure that it will by years' end, and th only reason it hasn't yet is that an increase of this magnitude TOO RAPIDLY will cause a serious economic depression right in the middle of a national election cycle. The Cabal wants business as usual (screwing the proles) but not a revolution.

This pretty much hits the nail on the head. However, they are not 'speculators' but large men/groups in power driving up the price.

Dow Theory has shown that over a Presidential cycle, the year after a president is elected, is the lowest increase in stock prices (many times a decrease), in the cycle. Using Siberian's term, The Cabal will pump up the economy until the next president is in office.

Of course, this is going on, on a world wide scale now...

There is plenty of oil to be had. But we have ridiculous measures set up to prevent us from getting it ourselves.

Last I knew, we had only tapped 18% of the world's oil reserves.

I didnt know the Prince of Saudi Arabia was gay.
Ugly ass car, but hey, if he sat on all of his cash and lived in a log cabin (impressive fete in the desert) Id be more bothered.. at least this way, ya got a jeweler and maybe an auto shop seeing some of that cash. Id wonder more about the company that sold the diamonds to him.. Odds are they are some shady bastards.

Again, right on. The Prince of Saudi Arabia can drive a diamond incrusted car because we are to stupid to use the oil we are sitting on, and other technologies like coal to oil to make ourselves energy independent. Simply because of movies. We don't use nuclear because of The China Syndrome, even though for those who believe in global warming, it can produce electricity with virtually 0 CO2 emissions. We just put the polar bear on the endangered specics list because of An Inconvient Truth, even though polar bear populations have increase five fold since 1970. We are living in an alternant reality created by Hollywood and the media. We are living divided by parties and politics, yet most of us really think pretty much the same. To me, that's what is disgusting.

Al Gore's book was "An Assault on Reason," right? If only he knew how ironic that is. Good post, Clug.

Bingo.

I wish people like you were more plentyful. Education on reality is sometimes tough to the stone heads that make up the majority of the western world.

F-me, is it embarrassing.

Many of us try to blame the Middle East for the gas prices we're dealing with. The U.S. oil companies made 100's of billions in profit last year. They have more than enough room to give us a break--a big break if they wanted. But they're so greedy. . .4 million is a drop in the bucket compared to what Americans are getting screwed out of by our own companies. That's freakin' sick.

Blame goes from top to bottom. From the plants that died and got buried 200 million years ago, to the people that first figured out how to use oil, to those who use it as a form of power and profit, right down to you and me, who use the stuff on a daily basis.

Rock, you lay blame on me, and rightly so. But recognize for a minute that I have limited power to change the world - I have no real power. Perhaps we can see our way towards a world where those that do have the power (OPEC, Exxon, and everyone else who sticks their greedy little fingers in the pie) use it in ways that benefit more than just their fat bank accounts. Perhaps we need to start demanding that people pay their proportionate share towards the betterment of all - or do you think that those who have gained power deserve to wield it any way they see fit?

But who gets to decide? What is a fair share for the betterment of all and how much do we have to make before we have to pitch in. Who gets to do the demanding and who has to yield to that power?

Isn't taking wealth from one group and giving it to another just letting someone or some group wield power any way they see fit?

Tell you what, put me in charge of the betterment of all program and I'll be all for it. Hey guys, how do like my diamond coated car. I did it for you.
