I think the idea behind new cars is to make them safe enough to guarantee a good chance at survival even in high speed collisions, but not to expect the car to have any hope of surviving.

There was definitely a lot of force on my body. I can recall more of it now than I could this morning, particularly about the impact. I remember the moment the cars hit, and how surreal it was. I was glued forward against the airbag long enough to remember it. I remember the car sliding left and into the ditch, too. It really was a wild amount of force.

The front end of the LHS there compressed just as planned, I imagine. Had it been more stable, I would've been hit a lot harder.

Given the choice between saving me or saving the car.... Well, insurance can't buy a new life.

Your right about newer cars. I call them throw away cars, hit something at over 15 MPH and expect to walk away unscathed, but to throw the car away.
