Diet starts TODAY!

OK, I've had it. Now I know why there are no walruses or hippopotamuses native to Georgia: it's too friggin hot for them.

Through a combination of quitting smoking, and GF who loves to eat, I have gained 20 pounds in the last year.

I half-heartedly tried a diet a few months back, and gave it up the next time she brought over pizza and chicken wings.

Now I am so fat, that with this heat I am miserable.

I weighed in this morning at a lardy 196 pounds.

I can lose 2 pounds a week with moderate exercise and going on a low carb diet. So I started this morning. In 3 months I will be at 170 pounds.

Anybody else?

I'm 5'11, 161 lbs and 11% body fat. So I cant be of much help other than some simple advice.

Find your BMI and your maintenance calorie requirement. Make a play to stay 250 calories a day below this number. Eat smaller meals, no more than 3 hours apart throughout the day.
All your meals prior to 2pm should contain Protien, carbs and fat. All meals after 2 pm should contain only protien and fats. Vegtables especially green leafy type should be eaten with every meal. Your last meal of the day should be eaten 2 hour prior to going to sleep. Drink 2 cups of water with every meal. Exercise for at least 30 minutes a day, every day.

Good luck.

(wow, this was my 4000th post, talk about a lack of drama LOL)

Yeah I'm starting today as well. I've always been a bigger guy... but with getting married(Wife is awesome cook, thin and couldn't gain weight if she tried) and quitting smoking, I've really packed it on. I'm 6'1" and 270... WAY too BIG. My goal is 210... meh, long way to go....

OK, slick. We're in this together, big guy! Mutual support group!

So far today I've had 1 Atkins protein bar and 1 can of pink salmon. I feel like shit.

When I get home, everything that is a carb is going in the freezer or into the dogs.

No more bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, crackers, chips, candy, chocolate, or ice cream for a while.

Weigh in right here on Fridays and Mondays. 2 pounds a week. Easy. More P.T., drill sergeant. Airborne. All the way. Hooah.

All right, all you closet fatties. This is your one chance to join in. Slickpitt and I will have no mercy on you if you're still fat in 6 months, because we will be as skinny as Lyle.

Cut out sugar and potatoes (white rice, white bread) and eat whole wheat bread, wheat pasta etc. You don't have to cut down much. It's the sugar combined with the carbs that packs it on you. I've lost 50 lbs. and it was easy.

6'0" and 245 lbs last November----Down to 186 lbs today. I alternately ran and lifted weights during off season. I eat LOTS of fresh vegetables. It has been fairly easy. Looking to get to my freshman college weight of 165 lbs. Hope to be there by the end of August or September.

BTW the weight loss has caused some stance and posture issues I've been having to work out. A few shanks is a small price I guess for feeling so much better.

I agreed to play on our companies softball team this spring so as part of that I figured I would go for a bit of weight loss also. At this point, this thursday will be week 12 the last game before playoffs, I have lost 22 pounds. I just changed some of my eating habits, not what I ate. I tried to do the no bread, rice and pasta thing like two years ago and after losing about 25 pounds I concluded I could not live that lifestyle and promptly put the weight back on so......this time it was a complete lifestyle change and so far so good.......looking to drop about 10 more pounds. I will be 5'7" 135ish pretty much what I was entering college.

Could afford to lose 15 lbs or so myself, currently 6'2" and 221lbs fully clothed. Feel best when I get into the 205 range fully clothed but right now I am loving food a bit too much. Weather has sucked & nothing else to do except watch tv & eat.

Sounds like a plan! I'll go to the gym tonight and weigh in, come back and post my actual #.

My plan is portion control and exercise. If I completely say "I CAN'T have this or that", then I'm gonna fail. But yes, breads and pastas in moderation, no fried stuff, stick to baked or grilled. 25 minutes on the treadclimber 5 times a week, hit the gym when I can and of course golf

Good deal! Try to do a situp or 2 while you're at the gym.

I weighed in this morning. I plan on using some dumbells here at work several times a day, going to the range in the evening, and doing a few situps and weights when I get home.

And not eating much.

When I used to smoke, I could go without eating after 7PM; instead I'd just fire up a butt. Now when I get bored, I eat.

Man I hear ya... lighting up is the easiest diet ever

Oh I plan to work out some tonight Already got my cardio in today. I have zero excuse ever.. have a treadclimber, bowflex select-tech dumbbells, and free weights at home, and the golf club I'm a member at has a full fitness center... so yeah... if I don't workout it's cause I'm damn lazy!

Edit: Just got back... 271.

My 1st Friday morning weigh-in: 193 pounds, down 3 and a smidgin pounds this week. Counting carbs and calories does work. Now if I can just get through the weekend without going too crazy.

Slickpitt, how did you do?

Fresh food is the key to healthy eating...try to eat as much fresh fish, white meat and veg as possible..

stay away from processed food...(its really hard in the US) for sauces with meat try to make them yourself from fresh produce...

only eat red meat twice a week...and ensure you eat fish twice a week...one oily (etc salmon for omega oils) and one white fish (cod etc)....

DO NOT DRINK SOFT DRINKS (CARBONATED)......drink plenty of water and even without much exercise you'll shed the pounds...
