You can get french fries and gravy, but you have to visit the real south, not the strip mall south.

What are ketchup chips?

I'm trying to get a mental picture here. Are they 'chips' as in 'potato chips'? Are they coated with dehydrated ketchup? Are they 'chips' as in 'fish and chips'?

What I'm talking about are just flavored potato chips. I've seen ketchup chips before.

No idea what the canuks are referring to. Rock?

What type of course and what time of day? I can play 18 with cart for that or less at a few places.

Not arguing with you, just curious. I consider certain courses "cheap golf" and am wondering if the courses are similar.

This course would be a likely spot to host the Provincial Championships.

If you pay more than $50 with a cart here, it's a weekend and you're getting hosed.

4 guys can go out and pay $160 for 4 green fees, 2 carts and a large pizza in the clubhouse at any of the finer courses in the province. I suppose there are a few that are more than that that i can think of, but they are very rural, don't have any competition for an hour in any direction and have nice touches like Caribbean sand bunkers and free entry into the provincial parks that house them.

There are alot of gem courses in Canada.

I should clarify tho, this is in SK. Go out to BC and $200 a round is easily found and loads of places. Same with Ontario. But out east and around here, great courses for little money.

King Par is an unknown quantity at this point
For sure. In Jasper its $150 for anyone to play, Junior or Adult. But in and around Saskatoon are alot of nice courses for cheap. I'm putting Dakota Dunes on my must play list this summer. Passed by it 3 times last summer and drooled every time.

That's similar to North/South Carolina. You can pay as much as you want to play, but if you do a little looking around you can play for $40 and under at nice courses. Sometimes you have to tee off after 12:00 or after 2:00, but there's still plenty of time for 18.

I'd love to get up there and play. From what I've seen over the years, Canada is a beautiful country.

This thread is obviously geographically centric... ie some of the things Rock said don't apply in NS where I grew up example cheap golf. Nova Scotia and PEI have 4 of the top 10 courses in Canada last I checked and because of this, it seems all courses even the moderate ones are $60 per. Those top courses will set you back $100 more or less which isn't terrible considering what you get to play.

Statements like I'd love to go to Canada it's beautiful country are just not well informed... I don't even refer to Canada as Canada, you really need to identify the different regions as they are all so different... this is kinda a pet peeve of mine since we are a border state and a lot of VTers think that all of Canada is like Quebec... I'm like, I'm from the Maritimes, zero comparison to the Euro flavor of Montreal.

I also must disagree with the person who preferred the Loonie over the dollar... that's insanity, unless you like carrying change.

The beer, I can see the point if you are comparing whatever your brew of choice is to say Budweiser or Miller (no offense Steve), but trust me for those who like real beers, it's available and it's great. It's a shame I'm going to miss Brewfest here this year

Can't wait to get some Harvey's tho and of course play the Highlands. Sorry if I sounded like a prude, I'm having a rough day and I'm just trying to pass on some info some might not have known or cared to learn.

Regional pride (and prejudice) is alive and well here in the states as well. There are vast differences in people depending on where they live in the US. The giant blender of the media, along with easy access to cheap transportation, and a strong emigration urge, are starting to homogenize everything. You still have deep pockets of regional isolation, but look at Florida and tell me where 3/4 of the people living here were born. I think Canada is different, simply because it is so big, and so sparsely populated. This leads to a greater sense of provincialism. That same provincialism (most evidenced by our Civil War 150 years ago) is slowly being erased in this country. I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing, but national pride is becoming stronger in the US. In Canada it seems to be cultural pride. People do say "I'm Canadian." But what does that really means to a Canadian?
