Home improvement projects

Last Summer it was the storage shed - hopefully some members got some good ideas and built their own.

Storage Shed.

This year the Mrs wanted a screened in porch. This was relatively cheap to do, ripping 2x4 stock and screwing it all together took some time, but the results are a great space we can enjoy without bugs Here are some pics of that project:

Once that project was complete, it was decided that we needed patio furniture and we had to eat out there... after much debate I would not let SWMBO spend $600 on a table that would not serve our needs. I wanted something that was a hybrid between a coffee/lounge table and a dining table, so the only way to get that was to build one. This is what I came up with. It's 23 1/2' tall and 40" square. Just the right height to be able to eat at, and still longe and put your feet up

This one gives you an idea of the height:

It's made out of 3/4" brown VT Maple glue-ups for the legs and base (maple is cheap here) and 1" tongue and groove for the top. The slats are nailed in place and the top is pocket screwed on to allow for expansion and winter storage. Finish is 1 coat Sedona Red Stain and 2 coats Dark Walnut stain, followed by 3 coats of Marine Poly.

Thanks for looking - let me know if you have any questions, especially about the screen - this is a project anyone can do

That table is beautiful, nice work.

My wife asked me about screening in our side porch. So I say, "we almost never have mosquitoes why would you want to screen it in?" She looks at me and says, "oh yeah." Job finished.

Damn, forget Homasassa and Texas, were going to move in on VT for the next Shottalk get together.

Excellent work, VT. I never would have know that the screened in porch was not an original part of the design. You do good work..

Thanks guys... we built in this development 4 years ago and the porch was already part of the design. I didn't add that myself. I just added the screen

2 Things -

1. I'm not sure we can play golf in foot deep snow which we will have in Dec.

2. There is no heat in the shed

Did you make sure to put screen across the underside of the floorboards?

Very nice work on the table, those joints look nice and tight. We ought to change your name to VTNorm.
