Thread: Company car

Haha, the first post was of a small european car, so I don't know how it turned into me glad that I don't live in the US. But I just read the whole thread now and realize how you could've misunderstood that.

    My new golf cart....

Your sorry little thing would fit in the bed. I could roll over it as if it were a speed bump.

    Sorry for your misfortune.

At there rate of growth, they will use the entire world's production of crude in ten years. This is while consumption in the US is falling.

By the way, all the companies that you mentioned are publically traded. So the "rich SOB's" that you are talking about include the teachers and police you are riding with in the bus, because, as I'm sure you know, 30% of oil stock is held in 401K retirement accounts. So these "windfall profits" are actually helping ensure a comfortable retirement for some deserving working class people.

I do not like $4.00 gas, or $10.00 gas, but I think the blame needs to be laid in the correct places. And not all of it should be at the feet of the oil companies.

And again we see socially irresponsible behavior jusitifed with feel-good rhetoric. 401K's are generally kept in very conservative funds, not wildly speculative margin accounts. The price of crude has doubled in the last year, while supply-side deficits have increased by a few percent. The fact is that rampant profiteering at the top is driving the price of energy. Nothing you can say changes that. There is plenty of blame to go around. All I'm saying is that the common man, whether he's consuming oil, or quietly participating in investments related to the oil industry, is not the only part of the equation that needs to back away from the trough. The "deserving working class people" are getting screwed. If you value that, then your values are certainly different than mine.

Here here!! I am the common man and I am either being made to drive a pos shit car that does o-60 in 30 ****ing minutes, or "ride a stinking bus filled with poor, disenfranchised mental patients" (brilliant btw).

Down with the sticking rich, and also down with the sticking poor who ruin public transport!

I read that as implying that anyone who doesn't agree with you on this issue is a Socialist.

Personally, I think Socialism theoretically is a more humane system than true Capitalism. Trouble is, here in the USA, implying that someone is a Socialist is really close to calling them a Communist. Most people would be hard pressed to give a cogent definition or distinction of the two, without resorting to a cut and paste from Wikipedia.

He just knows me too well. Toss out a worm on a hook and I'll rise up from the abyss to take a bite; never mind the heavy tackle on the other end.

And I agree with your comments about Socialism vis-a-vis its humanitarianism. The problem with Socialism is that it breeds mediocrity. That is Capitalism's greatest asset: it creates an environment in which the best is rewarded. I'm not anti-socialist, nor am I anti-capitalist. I'm anti-greed. It's greed that drives us to adopt the selfish attitudes and selfish policies that will cripple this country the same way greed has crippled or destroyed every great nation-state in history.
