Yes, beans are a meal unto themselves. Make them with a self-smoked hamhock. Some red chile for flavor and some spice, garlic, onion, dash of brown sugar for sweetness and color, and a couple other ingrediants.

Wait a minute here--there's a COOKING thread here and no one told me??!!

Not a big brats fan. The whole northern Wisconsin "fry out" thing never did it for me. Never mind having supper clubs instead of restaurants.

Wished I'd found this on a night I had something good going. Instead, it's just lentil soup in the crockpot--I make it with hot turkey sausage, ham, carrots, and mushrooms. Homemade biscuits (I love to make my own bread, of any kind). Basic salad.

My kids' favorite thing these days is to microwave mallomars for 30 seconds. That should amuse Clark (Jeff seems to have actual talent here, though I'm not sure what cheese is doing in Thai cooking.)

I had moose for the first time a couple of months ago. Some new friends who moved to Florida after 15 years deeeeeep in Alaska. Talk about a switch. Anyway, they chef'd up some moose and it was superb. Tasted liked a really good chuck roast.
