It's derived from the Ubuntu distro but it includes a lot of the restricted drivers that Ubuntu doesn't. I've had good luck with it so far. I've got it dual booting with XP on my laptop and it was a breeze to get the wireless drivers working.

We use it, but we run a 50 million dollar hosted software business that needs to be up 24/7/365. This business has so many moving pieces that need to work together seemlessly that the most stable environment was determined (by the systems guys) to be UNIX.

We used to run Win 2000 Server, with a SQL Server backend spread over a few dozen high grade servers. We spent the last several years converting everything to run on an HP-UX 64 bit platform with about half as many machines (not including the Oracle cluster). The databases were the last piece, converted to Oracle last summer.

My PCs and laptops are all WinXP and a lot of our devleopment servers are still running 2000 server, but most highly available, highly scalable enterprise applications that you find will not be running Windows.

Windows is awesome tho for the office PC, end user workstation etc.

I have a brand new RedHat Linux in a box that I never got around to installing. just never had the time or patience to learn it and like you said the drivers are a bitch unless you know all the places to get them or the code to make them work. I still use windows 2000. not a big fan of XP or Vista.
