Sad sign of the times

I was in a convenience store and overheard a young player hitting on the checkout girl.

P: You know me.
G: I know your baby's mama.
P: Which one?

I almost busted out laughing in spite of how truly sad that is. Neither one of them is over 25.

I'm not trying to be confrontational but its 'Baby Mama' The youth of today don't have time to pluralize. Oh my god! I said "The youth of today"! It's official, I am 134 years old!

At my request, he's killing me!

The ethnicity doesn't matter these days, everyone's trying to be a gangster.

True, there was a asian in one of my classes my first year of college that was way more gangsta than any of the black people at my school...

That is a funny convo though...i would have probably laughed at him..

Okay! I really, really attempt to keep away from these political type discussions. But, this trips my trigger!

No, it doesn't matter the ethnicity! Jamie Lynn Spears... what, 16 years old... idol of our youth has a baby with her boyfriend. They're living together and will probably hatch some more. No consequences are seen or implied.

Governors, senators... the political leaders of our country are caught with prostitutes (of both genders) and many of those same politicians haven't been ushered from office or even seemed to lose face with their constituency.

So, the youth of today is "entitled" to be 'kids having kids"!! You hatch 'em... we'll support 'em for you!! The gansta's... the playa's... the males leave their semen in as many "drop zones" as they can. No jobs to support the kids they father. No responsibilty to marry the girl you impregnated and keep your zipper up. Nope!! The fathers will continue to have their low-rider cars... car stero systems that rattle windows two blocks away while showering neighborhoods and shopping centers with the four-letter words prevelant in the (so called) music they listen to. They are entitled to cell phones and i-pods and video games and plasma tv's... and pay cash for those while you and I put food in the mouths of the kids they've fathered.

The young ladies are tattoo'd and pierced before they are old enough to drive. They wear slacks/jeans with a waist low enough you can see razor burn. Don't bother to hide the stretch marks from having a kid at 16... go buy more clothes that will attract more unemployed "donors" because we can get a check each month from the social welfare system to support the babies, supplemented by free food stamps!

I'm on construction sites each and every day. I've heard story after story how a guy has to get at least 3 days a week work to be able to pay child support for kids with multiple women... none of whom know him as "Dad". At least they're working to provide (thanks to court orders), but I imagine the kids and their mothers are still picking up welfare checks on top of the child support payments.

Don't get me wrong! Each and every one of us can... and does... make mistakes as we travel the road of life. But, we came from a generation where we knew there would be consequences for our mistakes. Today... you can willfully make those same "mistakes" (in fact, it's your "right" to make those same mistakes) and someone else will pick up the tab.

Dang!!! Who got me riled up!!! I gotta get back to talking about golf clubs and birdies and bogeys. I could, probably, shoot 100 Saturday and not get as agitated as I've been the last 15 or 20 minutes!!! Sorry! I'll hush up and crawl back into my shell!!!!!!

I manage numerous young men at work. All I hear all night long is stories about, "Baby Mama Drama". One young man that works for me is 25, just turned 25, and has 6 children by 2 women.

I told him he needs to buy a TV or find another hobby!!!

I'm 29 and somedays feel so outdated when I hear younger people talk and see how they act. I am a father and cringe at what my daughter will be subjected to in the coming years.

I couldn't agree more with you and it frustrates me as well to see how our youth and how people in positions of power/fame act and how they get a free ride for every bad thing they do. I just hope to be able to teach my daughter the way my parents taught me to be a responsible individual...

I guess this makes me old too, I'm going to go turn DOWN the music now LOL

LOL! at the need a hobby

I come from this generation, but even though I listen to rap, I still am not anything like that. I came from a lower-middle class family, and went to a predominantly black highschool, and I don't act like that. Parents don't parent anymore. In some states it's illegal to spank, that's ridiculous. My mom didn't work (or worked out of the house, she was an interior designer with no degree) because she didn't want us to be raised by a day care that doesn't care. I don't know if that had anything to do with how I turned out, but it must've because I remember specifically being mad at her because she was home so I couldn't do bad things, lol.

I was talking about this kind of thing with my buddy the other day, what do you do when you have a daughter, but all girls now days are hoes? And it's basically the same with this, as with not raising hoodlums or wannabe gangsters, is just raising them right and making sure that they know right from wrong and then you just have to hope they make the right decisions.

In 2 weeks I'm out of the army and my wife has an apartment right around where my parents currently live, which is where I grew up, and it's pretty sad because most of my friends from highschool are all still doing the same things they were in highschool, and some of them, with current highschoolers and they think they're "cool".

Argh, ok, enogh of my rant, lol. I think I beat you limpalong.

You will!! Both my daughters are married and have no children outside of those with their husbands. Both are still married to their first husbands. Both have been married over 10 years. (Wow! Am I really that old??)

I fear for my granddaughters... tell the kids I hope the grandkids allow them the "opportunity" to experience some of the challenges we encountered. (Even though I hope and pray they don't!!)

Our Army son is not yet married. Appears he has been responsible and has seen lots of his buddies 'taken to the cleaners' by attractive young ladies. Hopefully, he will keep busy enough jumping out of perfectly good airplanes to not get involved with someone he shouldn't.

It sounds like you've got your head on straight. Raising children is not without "hiccups". And, every child is their own personality. I wish you the best in the raising of your daughter. Hold her tight. Enjoy each and every moment. Too soon, she will be dating and driving and marrying and .... gone from home!

I know this is true but I can't fathom it just yet. She is 18 months and the light of my life. My wife and I make a good team though and I think, with a little luck, we may be ok...
