If WBL has a hole in one, anything is possible.

I have a friend who is about as skeptical as one would get on everything. He told me (asking me to keep it quiet) about when he and his father (the city cop) were out fishing early one morning on a local lake. A silver, cigar shaft object was hovering over the water about 50 yards away. His father said "you don't see that", meaning keep it quiet, they'll think you're nuts. And his father was the city cop. That makes me believe there is something to it. I also have a close relative who was dating the city police detective's daughter and they were having a cookout. There was a cylindrical object hovering in the sky making a buzzing noise and darting from one location to another and then just zipped off. Everyone in the cookout saw it (including the city detective) and could not explain it. I have not had any personal experiences but these people are not nut cases and are some of the most sensible people on this planet. And they saw UFO's. So I guess I have to say I believe there's something there. Whether they're our "secret" aircraft I don't know. If you ever saw the old Roswell personal movies of the one guy that brought a ton of "debris" from the UFO crash into his house you might have seen them taking sheets of what looked like aluminum foil, squishing it up into a ball and it pops right back to it's original shape. Guess what? A few years after Roswell we were developing what is called "metallic glass" or "amorphous metal". Search those and you'll find that they discovered (?) a way to make metal amorphous instead of crystalline and it pops right back to it's old shape. Remember the "liquid metal" driver? That was the stuff. Again... the timing of this seems to connect the Roswell crash to the discovery of "metallic glass". And there has been some serious government coverup of this, probably because we have some secret weapons (UFO's) developed from it? All speculation on my part but who knows. It's a fun topic to talk about.

The universe is too vast, and nature is too good at creating life out of about 50 different elements, some of the most abundant of which just happen to be the main building blocks of the carbon/oxygen/hydrogen/nitrogen-based life we know and understand.

Is there other life in the universe? More than we can possibly imagine. You are a fool if you think otherwise.

Is some of that life intelligent enough to have developed space and/or time travel that could get them from there to here? Well, we've managed to send a machine out of our solar system in just 10,000 years of 'civilization' and only 100 years of knowing how to fly. In the last 50 years we've learned enough about our universe to know what happened near the very beginning of what we know as time and space. And quantum physics is exploring realms of weirdness that most people (myself included) can't possible grasp the implications of.

There are lots and lots of other solar systems that are billions of years older than ours. What might a civilization that is 100,000,000 years more advanced than ours understand and be capable of?

The question of whether they are out there is a question that should not even be asked anymore by any reasonably intelligent person. We've learned enough to answer that question with a resounding "of course!"

But we humans require proof. And as long as that search for the truth continues, we will never know for sure until we know for sure. All the speculation about cave paintings, government conspiricies, biblical references (was Jesus implanted into a Mary that was abducted by aliens? Sure explains the whole virgin birth thing...) is all just speculation.

The real question that should be asked is "Why?" Why would a technologically advanced spacetime-traveling species be interested in a primitive species on a ho-hum planet circling a ho-hum star tucked away in the backwoods of a ho-hum galaxy that's part of a ho-hum galaxy cluster that's been around for 15 billion years or so?

Who knows? Maybe our religious myths tell us the truth, but that truth has been perverted by those who seek power. Maybe we were "planted" here. Maybe they have walked among us from time to time throughout our history, giving us little pushes. But pushes towards what? Why would they care?

Monotheistic religions like to think that we are special somehow. That we are the "chosen ones." That there is a benevolent and sometimes demanding "God" who created us and guides us towards some future. Perhaps there is some truth to that. Perhaps alien visitation explains all of it. But again, why?

There are a couple of things I strongly believe:

1. The universe is not only stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can imagine.

2. Humans instinctively seek both the certain and the uncertain.

The question of alien visitation is one that will never be answered until it is answered definitively. Hopefully we won't be extinct when that time comes.

You guys need to read Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. You will so want there to be intelligent life out there. Yes even an intelligent shade of blue exists in this Addam's world. And government functions are taken care of by the Vogon's---The most odious species in the universe.

Doug Addams is author. Series of 5 books and a movie.

Zaphod is the President of the Universe in the adventures. I'm loving it.

Eracer. I was wondering when someone would get to these points. The theory that we might have been "planted" here by a species far more intelligent could explain many things, especially about religion(s). And some of those old pictures from south america and also the middle east showing what appears to be UFO's hovering might not be all that much speculation. These guys were just painting what they saw!!

Oh, and read this.... (pertains to previous post)

Go down to Roswell and search around. When you come back talking about being probed and prodded, that is the US Government and not and Alien life form.
Oh man, there's so much conspiracy theory about everything in New Mexico its not even funny.

Roswell incident is kind of a funny one. On the one hand, maybe it just was a weather balloon. On the other hand, you have military, reporters, and regular civilians who all are saying the exact same thing, who haven't spoken to eachother(I'm talking in the late 40s tense) and have been approached by the government.

Who knows, what if the government is now using the UFOs and trying to keep that little secret quiet? Like it truly is jacking their technology.

More than anything I'd just like to communicate with an alien, imagine how much you could learn!

Another funny note, Brazilian government encourages people to come forth with evidence of UFOs. This has been known to rub a couple people wrong in our country. Again, why?

Finally someone is looking at the most important of all the details surrounding this debate. I for one am now looking to the skies for the golf club that will fix all of my swing faults and cause people to say "Tiger who??"

I'm with those who have a a very hard time believing that through all these years and through all these employees EVERY ONE of them have kept a secret. Not just any secret but a huge secret.
Also my relative is one of a handfull of people in a very high position with the Department of Defense . I know that what we see today is years behind what the government is already working on. I would say we are two versions behind anything issued. The govt. is so determined to confisate photos of what is out there because of its need to protect its military, spies, and employees. If some broke crackpot thought what he had a picture of was new military design he would most likely sell it to spying countries. If he thinks it could be extraterrestrial (due to doubt placed by govt) he probably won't go any further than the Enquirer.

I wish people would examine "God" like this.

I appreciate your skepticism.

Anyway, my estimation...

Intelligent life could very well exist in the universe other than here; I'm talking about significant civilizations too, not earthworms on Pluto. Like Eracer said, the universe is so damn big that the random fluke of "life" that happened in our solar system could very well have happened elsewhere.

Are they here/observing/probing? Maybe. Would it be that hard to find us? Assuming they're more advanced than we are (which is possible, but not probable, simply because I have no way of even wagering a guess) picking up stray radio waves and the like is entirely within the realm of advanced technology. Maybe even light-years away.

Aliens are possible because, at least once in the whole universe, the situation was right for spontaneous life. It happened, here I am! It's vastly more likely than God, but that's not saying much...

I am not in the position to say that aliens do exist. I am saying that if they did, it would not shock me, because life has popped up once before in the universe.
