Holy carp.

What are the effects of hanging out where that kind of power is "in the air"?!?

What happens if I walk out of the shower while eating a salt-laden pretzel while my laptop is "recharging"? Am I going to fry my willy?

Would it matter eithe way?

Its just a matter of time...who knows the ramifications of sitting next to these things...we wont know untill people start poping out disfigured babies and we start getting tumors/cancer from them

Eventually there will be no need for electritions as we will no longer have to run wires through the house to get current to any electrical device, everything will run off of electricity that is "beemed" to it...and where does it stop...can we start "beeming" waste away from our houses? No more plumbers either?

convenient...probably

I am on the fence as to wether this is a good idea or not...

A light bulb doesn't use much power. I worry what might happen if they were using a much larger power source, and even 25% of it wasn't making it to the source.

I mean, energy doesn't just disappear. It'd be dispersed as it is or in some other form. I don't know enough to tell you what loose electricity is like. I'm very curious about electricity in general. Note to self...

Actually, if anyone can recommend some good reads on understanding electricity in general, I'd like to know about it. I mean, I want to know about how energy is stored and tranferred in that form, and how it is manipulated in various appliances and utilities.

I mean, electricity can indirectly do ANYTHING... Who doesn't want to know more about it?

Tesla was doing wireless energy transfer 100 years ago. Imagine the implications? Solar panels in the desert wirelessly powering Los Angeles? If people wanted to use so called "green alternative energy", this would be a huge step, not to mention a replacement for an ancient, overloaded energy grid.

It would put a lot of people out of work, though.

Somebody would have to install and service the panels, not to mention manufacture the massive supply the world would suddenly be demanding. And with all the excess energy, it's likely new industries would pop up, and entirely new forms of entertainment.

New jobs would open up in the new industry, or the money people would save on electricity would be recycled into the economy, allowing for job growth. People would certainly be out of the jobs they HAD, but I think it'd actually produce job GROWTH on net.

I mean, if a robotics factory is going to replace a building full of people making things by hand, someone has to design, build, wire, inspect, furnish, paint, etc. the factory, then design, build, maintain, upgrade, and monitor the machinery that replaces the jobs lost. Jobs are lost, but jobs are created too, with new industry. And the average consumer is better off for it, because a new industry only flourishes if it makes life easier or cheaper for the consumer.

Ugh, you think too long term. You'll never be a politician. You need to think about now, not 10-15 years from now. That's so, like, tomorrow!

Your right about job creation. It should really be a net plus, although it would require people get some job training. If we couple that with some more welfare reform, I.E. elimination, we really could give the economy a kick in the pants.

How about this? Wireless transmission of nuclear power from the moon? Sound far out? It already happens from the sun.

My grandmother was freaky about not having a light bulb in a socket. She was afraid about all the electricity spilling out into the room. Maybe the old gal had something?

"Oh crap, we just blew up the moon!!".

I think before we build a nuclear plant there we should figure out how to get a man there... for real this time.

I'm not opposed to a little gonad electrocution providing that means no electric bill.
