Ahhh, nothing like having job prospects.

The GF tells me this morning: Hon, I think you should go test drive that G35.

I have a feeling if you drive it, you'll end up getting it. They are quick cars. If the G35 is in the same price range as as the Acura, forget it, I'd personally take a G35 all day long. Around here the Acura's look like they are about $5K-$6K less than a same yr. and mileage G35.

You know what? I see Adam, and Ez, and all you talking about racing...HA!

Racing!?

You guys aren't racers, what you do on public streets is purely moronic and totally selfish, and far from racing.

I understand wanting something sporty and fun(even though a motorcycle is better), but please be smart about it. Please.

I never claimed to be a racer... or a ricer. When your insurance is $300/yr., then you are as safe a driver as I.

I'm not gonna be a street racer, so don't get your panties in a wad. But, I am gonna be driving 80-100 miles every day, so I want to enjoy the experience as much as possible.

That said, the GF and I just got back from test driving the 2006 G35 Coupe 6MT and the 2009 Civic Si Coupe 6MT.

Both were fun to drive.
The G35 had more power and was much noisier.
The G35 had 19" rims, and tires will be much more expensive than the 17" tires on the Civic Si.
The interior on the G35 is much more expensive feeling, with power everything and leather.
The Civic Si will get better gas milage.
Interior room is slightly more on the G35, and the trunk is slightly bigger on the Civic Si.
The price on this G35 has been dropped to $21700.
The Civic will have a much longer warranty since it is new.

So.......what it will come down to is which dealer will give me the best trade-in and deal.

I plan on letting them sweat for a week, then see what they will do. There was nobody looking at cars in either dealership, so I have that going for me.

I guess what I'm getting at here is that using "racing" is a dangerous statement. Anyway, I'm cranky.

The one I test drove today is a 2006 with 36,000. More miles than I would like to tell the truth. Clutch felt a little grabby, but what do I know? It's the first time I've ever driven a G35. The ride was harsh but I expected that since the 6MT comes with a sports suspension.

Well, consider how you'll be using it. You'll be looking at 70K on it in a year. The Civic is the better choice, obviously. Starting out at 0 miles you should at least get 5-6 yrs. out of it. The G35 will have around 250,000 miles on it in 6yrs. driving the amount you are talking.

At no point have I mentioned racing, I'm slightly insulted to be associated with something as stupid.

More like 25K, but the same point applies.

I'm gonna be driving a lot, so the newer car will be the best bet, if they will give a decent deal. Yesterday was just the opening bid, but the Honda guys ofered me $3K trade in. HA! They will have to come up some if they wan to make a sale.

If you want something to last buy Japanese.

If you want cooler interiors (usually) buy American. The (Honda, Nissan & Toyota) Japanese interiors just don't turn me on.

And all the Japanese, Korean and American cars I've had and driven, the American cars just plain ride and handle nicer IMHO.

The only "cool" Japanese car I've ridden in (interior, sound etc) is sssmokin's (chick?) Eclipse.

Really? My girl had that '04 Saturn and now the G6, I don't like the interior of either. You could take 3/4's of the parts off the G6 and slap them right on any other GM that size. Very cheap and plasticy. I actually like my interior a lot better. Of course it's comparing a car that was like $17K in 2006 to one that was almost $30K in 1999.
