this thread could well be endless...
anyway, inspired by Sling, I've set this up just to display some "famous photos", some of which you guys may know - and others you may not. Regardless, hope u enjoy them and feel free to contribute!

and another two...
Winnie...Man of The Century...
I maintain that this one is the most famous photo ever taken.
It is certainly the most reproduced.
The US government alone issued 3.5 million posters of this image for the 7th war bond tour as well as 137 million 3 cent postage stamps, nevermind the newspaper and magazines pictures.

I don't know how you would prove such a thing. I'd argue that, in terms of a global audience, many of the 9/11 photographs will, globally, be more well known than this one.
It's pretty much an unprovable statement, I'd say - whereas I don't dispute your claim that it is the most reproduced. But one doesn't necessarily mean the other.
Go ahead and ask your buddies at work if they have ever seen it before.
I doubt you'll be able to come up with another, more recognizable photo, including any from 9/11.
This is a pretty recognizable one that I thought of right off -

Never saw the soccer photo; what is the story behind that one, pray tell?Originally Posted by Kilted Arab

He meant to put in this one.![]()

Churchill knew much of what the Germans were doing the entire war. Sometimes, he had to sacrifice the lives of British spies, knowingly and willingly, to keep the secret of British possession of the Engima machine safe.
Absolutely Brutal Decisions the man had to make. What a way to go to bed in the evening...but a leader's leader. He began warning about German military build-up in 1934 and nobody would listen. Called him a warmonger, hawk, fool. Then the war starts six years later and he leads his country to victory...savvy, tough as steel.
One of my most admired without a doubt.
I think the one one the left of MM is surely one of the most recognizable in the western world in the past 40 years.Originally Posted by Kilted Arab

This is a great thread idea.
I was looking though some images and came accross this.....just to sorta keep things on topic at the same time....

As an example, there are 1.5bn people in China. How many of them do you think would recognise your photo? And I'd bet that nearly all of them have seen this picture....it is everywhere...in public squares, schools and homes. In fact, I'think there would be a good case for the picture of Mao being more instantly recognisable on a global stage.
I wouldn't expect many outside of the UK to recognise it. The big fella doing the grabbing was Dave MacKay, the wee fella was Billy Bremner. Bremner was a nippy wee terrier of a player, MacKay a big, uncompromising hard bastard. He took umbrage at continual niggling from Bremner and they had a little chat about it..Originally Posted by spankdoggie
