Thread: Watch any movies lately?

    Watch any movies lately?

Seen quite a few on DVD recently, afew stinkers but also some where I was surprised I actually enjoyed them. Will list a couple in both the good & the bad.

    Good:
Death Race, I was shocked how much I enjoyed this.
Cloverfield, received mixed reviews but both the wife & I enjoyed it.
Wanted, wasn't as good as expected but still decent.
    Hancock, loved it.

    Bad:
Death Proof, normally I like Kurt Russel & he was good in this, if they would have had more of him as the sociopathic killer & less of the rather uninteresting 1st group of women it would have been a much better movie.

    Wall E, boring as hell
Horton Hears a Who, couldn't stay awake.
The Bank Job, I enjoy Jason Statham but this movie sucked.
Indiana Jones with the Skull, horrible, rotten, did I mention horrible?

What have you all seen lately?

On a golf topic I saw "The Greatest Game Ever Played" today. Pretty good movie.

This week I saw the following that I can remember.

Got Iron Man and Borat off Amazon unbox for .99 cents each. Borat I hated and stopped watching after about 45 minutes. Iron Man was another story. I have always been a fan of Robert Downy Jr, and this may have been one of his finest roles. Absolutely loved the movie, and while I was never much of a fan of comics as a kid, I am starting to like many of the Marvel Comics movies. Seems like the Soundtracks are always fantastic and they are action packed. This could be one of the better movies I have seen in the last year and also really liked Daredevil. Didn't think I was going to like either. Both had fantastic plots. Saw the very end after the credits with Samuel L. Jackson about The Avengers, and see that Downy is going to be in that as well. Should be good if they have Samuel L. Jackson, Downy, Don Cheadle, and Ed Norton.

Also TiVo'd one called Heart Condition with Denzel Washington and Bob Hoskins. It was O.K. Getting ready to watch Inside Man with Denzel Washington shortly maybe.

Have seen a couple others in the last week or so, as I like to watch movies, but can't think of any that really came to mind.

    Inside man was pretty good.
Forgot about Ironman, probably my favorite movie of the year. The Hulk was ok, nowhere near as good as Ironman but still quite watchable.

And if you haven't seen The Dark Knight yet, that's a must see simply for Heath Ledgers performance as the Joker.

  4. I bought Dark Knight as soon as it came out. Great movie.
    what is golf?

  5. Traitor with Don Cheadle is very good if you're in for a political thriller.

Burn After Reading was okay. Some really funny stuff, especially with Brad Pitt. The mixture of humor and drama by the directors (Coen Bros??) is a nice mixture. . .Sometimes I don't know if I should be laughing my ass off or completely cringing in pain.

  6. The Dark Knight = great
Yes man was pretty funny, Jim Carry as good as ever
Four Christmases was ok, not my kind of movie.
Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.

  7. Having just finished a 4 month stint of night shift, I think I've watched nearly every movie released on DVD and even a few that I've gotten through other means. Just in the last week though, I've watched some very good ones.

    1. Gran Torino - Excellent movie, Clint Eastwood is great in it and it has an excellent story.
    2. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - Another good movie. The makeup and special effects were really good in this one. The story is pretty good as well.
    3. The Wrestler - Kind of sad and a bit predictable, but another good movie. Mickey Rourke is absolutely ripped and does a good job in this one.
    4. Religulous - Good film, especially fun to watch with someone who is very religous just for their reactions.

That's just the standouts from the last week, I really have probably seen nearly everything released in 2008 though.

Looking to switch out the 3 wood soon.

I found WallE to be quite refreshing. The first 60% of the movie the only 'words' expressed were WallE and Eva, yet the entire story line was layed out and tons of emotions were conveyed.

Now i'll admit the only reason i saw it as to take my daughter(3) to it, but after watching it, yeah it was cute and cuddly for the little kids, but much deeper than i thought it was going to be.

  11. Wall-E : Excellent
    Kung Fu Panda: Excellent
    Iron Man: Awesome

Not new, but got for christmas:
    300: Great movie
Fantastic 4-Rise of the Silver Surfer: Not great, but like any comic fan, was thrilled to see the Surfer onscreen, best part of the movie.
Constatine: Don't like Keanu Reaves, but enjoyed the movie despite him. Could've been awesome with a good actor.

Iron Man - Good, but not one I'll own (unlike Dark Knight, which I loved.)

Rendition - Pretty scary depiction of how the fight against terrorism pits individual constitutional rights against the right of the State to use whatever means necessary to stop it.

Thank You For Smoking - Excellent film on all levels.

Tropic Thunder - Rude, crude, in your face toilet humor. Don't like Ben Stiller? Stay far away. Tom Cruise in a hilarious role as a movie producer. Robert Downey Jr. plays an Aussie playing a black man who can't get out of character. Jack Black plays a fat, disgusting, drugged-out actor who has some of the most insane scenes in the movie. Blood, bombs, drugs, bullets, farts. Think Zoolander x 100. I laughed a lot.

I Am Legend - Loved the first two-thirds. Didn't really like the resolution, but overall, one of Will Smith's best roles.

    Lately?

Marley & Me: Cute movie, some laughs, some sorrow, nice easy flick.

Traitor: Interesting movie, painted a side to the Islam-West struggle that I hadn't thought much about

10,000 BC: Its...acceptable. My wife really wanted to see it. I couldn't get past nomadic tribes with clean fingernails.

Horton Hears A Who: Utterly predictable, but cute.

Step Brothers: I found this hilarious, its off the wall, not really flowing, madness. "Oh, lumberjack!"

Over the last 2 nights I watched all 3 of the Bourne movies, had never seen any of them. I thoroughly enjoyed The Bourne Identity, the 2nd one which the name escapes me right now, was ok but a bit of a letdown compared to the 1st. Finished up the trilogy a little bit ago with The Bourne Ultimatum & loved it.

Clark & Skiddly, trying to figure out what was so great about Wall E? I realise everyone has varying tastes & I really enjoy action thrillers so Wall E obviously isn't aimed at me anyways. I thought the 1st 20 minutes or so was kinda cute & different, but it got old quickly. I really hated the gelatinous couch potato people, I think if the movie would have went in a different direction & left any reference to humans out of it, it would have been better.
