The obvious and not-so-obvious thread...

I wanna start a thread that houses interesting facts of obvious and not so obvious stuff.

Like the term "soft drinks."

Where the hell did that term come from?

I looked it up tonight. Apparently, during prohibition, a "hard drink" was pretty obvious. The alternative was a "soft drink", prompting drinks to be labeled accordingly until this day.

Weird stuff, but obvious as hell when you think about it.

Anyone else have stupid facts worth mentioning?

The average bra size ten years ago was 34B, today it is 36C

Couple of questions...

If i choke a smurf, what color does he turn?

Why do men have nipples?

Interesting.

My guess would be because of proper fittings and better nutrition (for thebra sizes). In yesteryear, and even today, many women wear bras that are way too small for their bodies.

As for nipples, I knew this, but forget now.....

The slang word "Clams" for money (dollars) goes back to the native American Indians who used clam shells as money.

More specifically, they would chip out the white shell part called (Wampum).

Settlers knew them not by the Indian name...but by what they were: Clams.

Now i have no clue how tha study was performed....or if its even valid, but i do wonder how much of a role the whole new breast augmentation trend has played into that.

I know somewhere around 3/4's of the women over the age of 18 in california have had a boob job...

Better nutrition definatly plays a role, as does the fact that american people are fatter than ever which also increases the size of the breasts....

ETA: The old man types faster than i do...

I got a book about the history of currency for X-mas. It's a pretty interesting read so far. I haven't gotten to the Native AMerican era yet, but there's some fastinating crap about money that I never even dreamed about in that book.

Good one, Rory.

Obvious to trained motorcyclists but not so much to others...

To turn a motorcycle at speed you must turn the handlebars in the Opposite direction you wish to turn. So, to turn the bike to the left, you must point the front tire to the right.

Well duh. My wife was shocked the first time she saw me doing this, back when I raced. Ahhh, those were the days.

Did you know that pigs cannot look at the sky? So long as they are on level ground, and without assistance, they can't turn their head up to look at the sky.

Polo is the only game that must be played right-handed.

Over 70% of all koalas in Australia have Chlamydia. I don't want to think about how it got into that population.

When it snows and the ground is covered with white. When the snow melts, where does the white go? If you dig a hole will you find it?

The white is caused by air pockets reflecting sunlight. Same thing with glaciers and icebergs. The greener or bluer an iceberg, the less air it has in it.

I only know this because I live in snow 95% of the year.
