  4. That was in McDonough, Georgia. There were also reports of a station with 10 gallon limit at $4.99 a pop. A lot of gas stations around here ran out of gas and had to close up shop.

I personally saw a sign for $3.79 in Midtown, ended up filling up for $2.89 on Ponce and Piedmont.

Hopefully, this will teach us a lifestyle change in the states. Prices will fall, but hopefully until then we, as a society, may learn to carpool, or walk that 4 blocks to lunch, etc...

many other countries such as Denmark and others have had high gas prices, high automobile taxes, ect... They get by.

I'm no tree-hugger by any stretch, but our dependencies on oil MUST be broken.
Golf is the only game you have to practice every day just to suck at.

Remember these prices? This wasn't that long ago, this was the price of gas in TX in Nov. of 2001. The price down the street was $2.69 this morning so that averages out to about a 33% annual increase for the last 4 years. And it's worse in other areas.

bd's right because decreasing demand is probably the only effective way to change things. It is a commodity after all.

  7. I like how at $1 per gallon or $6 per gallon, premium is still $.20 more than regular...

Please refrain from eliminating the obvious when speaking about fossil fuels.

I've bolded the big ticket here. Taxing those that want the lifestyle.

If you want/need a big SUV/Truck/V8 muscle car, then you pay for it. Places in the UK have license fees dependant on the size of the engine your car has. If you're running a 1.6L Civic, you pay $X. If you want or need a 6.3L V8, you pay $XXXX.

I'm not saying get ird of SUV's. But those that have them don't necessarily need them. And I, for one, am sick and tired of supplementing those that use trucks, SUV's, Vans for everyday to and from work vehicles. I personally chose a car that was good on gas and emissions for a reason.

So why am I paying 1.18 at the pump when I use 20% of what my boss does in his 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4, yet we pay the same for our plates?

    Useless system.

We have to start somewhere, and this might be a little solution. Not necessarily the be-all, end-all of course, but it might make the average joe think twice before shelling out for a Chevy Blazer with the V8 when the V6 might costs him 40% less to plate every single year....

Add up that fuel savings in terms of society and you get a pretty big dent....

  9. i went to work yesterday morning the price was $2.75. 3 hrs later i went by the station it was $3.25.then on my way home today it was $3.59.it cost me $34.20 for 9.5 gals.if i would have filled up yesterday morning i would have saved $8.

up here in NNY if you want to work you have to buy gas very few people in my area work close enough to home that they dont need to drive.

this is the closest job ive had to home a 36 mile round trip.next closest was my last job before the plant shut down 60 mile round trip.

i always thought i was doin pretty good since the jimmy i own now gets about 20mpg best gas mileage ive had in any veh. ive owned.

  10. Invest in hybrids.. the new Toyota Prius is only about 20 grand well equipped. You can pay a LOT more than that for regular cars, and I just about GUARANTEE it'd pay for itself with the money you save on gas. 65 mpg, anyone?

I just started driving about 4 days ago.. and I detest the odometer..

I think I'm just gonna invent a new kind of engine. Anybody wanna invest?

  11. I'll invest......as soon as you show me a plan and a prototype.

  12. I actually do have a fairly good idea.. It WOULD work to some extent. My friend and I (both genius-level students) brainstormed it for a couple of hours. In theory, it works. And most of the brainstorm was trying to make it NOT work. We couldn't find a reason that it wouldn't..

Tell me you're not using the fission engine in Back to the Future...

BTW, there are also geniuses on this board

  14. No, it's something much more conventional. Maybe in a couple of years I'll make a donation of sling in the amount of 5,000,000$ for hosting such a great site. Then you'll know it worked

4,999,980 can go to whatever he wants, but the first 20 needs to go to a new haircut.

  15. Jumped up .50 per gallon TODAY here in Utah. I bet those who have recently bought Hummers are really happy about it.
