Thread: Gran Torino - A Review

  1. Gran Torino - A Review

I'm on a media review binge, all of a sudden. I saw this yesterday with my girlfriend, and felt it deserves more publicity than it gets.

When the commercials say, "Vintage Eastwood," they're not kidding.

Clint is Clint, and may be grimier, grittier, and more rugged than he's ever been- even without a cowboy hat or a noose around his next, or a gun that could "blow your head CLEAN off."

The story starts a little slow, but the movie remains VERY entertaining due to racist jokes, believe it or not. Somehow, this movie manages to play EVERY racial slur you can think of for people from the East without it seeming gratuitous. It's exceedingly funny, and the resolution of the movie definitely leaves a "no hard feelings" effect about it all in the end.

I'm not going to comment on the ending, other than to say it may make you re-examine yourself. It's a great movie top to bottom. In a tough economy, and in an era where most movies couldn't ever HOPE to warrant an 8$ ticket, Gran Torino really delivers. I may take my parents to see it, but I genuinely feel that it can be enjoyed by everyone.

It's laugh out loud funny, tragically sad, and so blue-collar you'll start wearing t-shirts to the golf course.

Enjoy, guys, Especially the older bunch of you (coming from a 20 year old) will enjoy it.

    Enjoy, guys,
This really hurts to say, but SUX is absolutely correct! Saw this movie this weekend and it is one of the best movies I've seen in a long, long time. DO NOT miss this movie!

  4. I'm 43, I saw it and couldn't agree more. Had to get the wife to leave because she was sobbing. Saw a few wet eyes as we were walkin out.

Suppoting cast could've done better, but a great flick none the less.
