    Need computer help!

    My in-laws have a Gateway computer with Microsoft XP

    Heres the two problems they are running into...

    1) Occasionally when trying to pull up a website, a secure website, like their bank info, they can no longer access them like before. Now they get an error message that says:

    "SUPPLIED CERTIFICATE IS INVALID"

    2) They recently bought a printer, and when they connected the two and tried to download the software, they got an error message that said:

    "SOFTWARE NOT PASSED WINDOWS LOGO TESTING TO VERIFY COMPATABILITY WITH WINDOWS XP".

    I went to their house today and figured I'd re-instal their XP recovery disc...and I got an error message this time telling me that the recovery disc was for an older version of what was already on there.

    Anyone have any ideas???? I GOTTA get their fixed, otherwise they'll be here all the time using my computer!

    Is it definatly a legit copy of windows xp?

    The browser issue can be solved by downloading Internet explorer 8 or Opera or Firefox, I think. What make of printer is it?
    If at first you don't suceed, spin around in circles.

    The printer issue is not too uncommon, however there is usually an option to go ahead and install or proceed anyways. It is usually just a warning message, where if you hit the correct response it will proceed.

    The other, as mentioned before, make sure you have updated the browser and clear out the cache and cookies. Even this one usually has an option to proceed, however it would not be on a secured site. This could also be a problem with the website not being compatible with updates.

    Check the date and time setting. I recently had similar issues and my date had moved back to before I installed most of my software.

    Is there anything on their computer that has to be saved? I would format the whole thing and start from scratch. Go into the bios/setup and make it boot from CD/DVD... then go from there.

    It is a legit XP disc from GAteway the Printr is an Epson

    ABSOLUTELY. If the date jumps back before you added software you'll get these same kind of messages. It's happened to me twice this year. Now I know what to do. Caught it by accident.

    Nothing recommended here or at a few other forums worked...we have no idea what the issue is but it does appear to be related to us not having a valid certificate registered.

    Which it had before..but not now....this was bought direct from Gateway...not a clone or handmade item.
