Where to check an IMEI?

Hey guys.

I'm looking for a new Iphone 3GS, and I found someone who is selling it at a very very reasonable price, but since I don't know him personally I don't know if the phone might have been stolen or something (happened once with my first Iphone, and I couldn't update ANYTHING from the 1.2 version).

I just wanted to know if you guys know any site in the internet or any way I can check the IMEI has not been reported or soemthing
