I just watched it land at Dane County Regional Airport in Madison Wisconsin.
Apparently Mr. President is going to talk to some middle school kids today.
This was my first time seeing AFO, and it was quite unimpressive. A baby blue and white with a Flag on the tail...meh....
Cool to watch it land though, i guess the school has been locked down since 8:15 this morning, no one in or out until after the President leaves.

I used to live near Gray AAF(connected to Ft. Hood).. AF1 would land there frequently when Bush would visit his Crawford ranch. It's a cool plane, but nothing special. Now.. the Space Shuttle piggy-backin' on a massive plane from NASA to go back to CC was pretty awesome.. It landed there.

Never seen AF1 in person before, I was stuck on the runway in Cleveland once when AF2 (I think that's what they call the VP's plane) landed and then had to wait for Cheney and his entourage to depart COMPLETELY from the airport. Nobody was allowed to take off or land. It was quite a sight seeing all the black SUV's with their lights flashing. Sucked sitting on the runway for an extra 45 min while he left though.
I imgagine AF1 isn't much to look at, but on the inside it's pretty amazing.

Nothing special? You ever seen the high tech gear that's on that bad boy? A B2 Bomber has nothing on AF1 when it comes to high tech stuff (Except stealth :laugh. Secure communications, all kinds of electronic AWF gear, flares, chaff and a ton of other stuff. Oh, it's also fairly radiation hardened too.
If you ever get a chance to see the History/Military channel documentary on it you should watch it. One of the coolest aircraft I've ever seen.
It's kinda made to look like "nothing special" on purpose. :laugh:

Update, AF1 just took off....
Yes, we flew the president in, shut down traffic for hours, so he could speak to a couple thousand middle school students, and then flew him out....
Cost effective? I'm not so sure....

We watched AF1 fly right over our plant in Deforest, airport is only a couple miles away so the planes are usually pretty low. I prefer the fighter jets as I see those things everyday & they are just cool to watch.

the company i used to work for.serviced AF1 once had a picture of it on my desk at work.was a pic of a guy reaching up to open the hatch and hook up the hose to suck out the AF1 (waste receptical)
