MERRY CHRISTMAS

I realize that saying MERRY CHRISTMAS might not be politically correct these days, but I am going to say it anyways!

Here at the White House, er, Shot Talk, we prefer "Happy Holidays".

Kidding, GB.

Thanks for the kind words.

I think that saying "Happy Holidays" is diminishing the pain of those with loved ones who are missing overseas and what not. Do not preach happiness. Furthermore, your denominational holidays are an affront to all those blessed pagans and others without a purported "holiday" at this time of year. Rather than be a cold-hearted ignorant, merely say:

"Seasons Greetings"

Y'know, or something!

Season's greetings. That somewhat vague. Isn't the time period after Christmas technically a "season"?

How about "Happy Shopping and Bank account draining period of the Year"?

Merry Christmas right back at ya!

I don't really understand all the PC concerning Christmas. No one says you have to observe it if you don't wan't to. I don't think anyone's ever suggested changing the name of hanukkah to winter festival. And no one's ever gonna have the nerve to suggest changing the name of a Muslim holiday.

I don't mean to rant it's just that the holiday, if you want to celebrate it, is Christmas.

I think it should be called "good luck shoving your wallet up your ass because you don't get to see it again for a looooong time".

Dave,I agree with the PC thing...I think it's just going too far in general. But I guess that's what they said when they let women vote...pfft, whose idea was that, anyhow?

I think that it's the fact that it's basically the only religion that's recognized in terms of holidays and season in North America and Europe. I'm sure not alot of "Holiday Trees" get purchased in Ghana or South Korea. Yet we still house people in our countries that live through different religions, only to have "the western way" stuffed down their throat.

And don't say that "this is our country, they should have to live by our rules and holidays" cuz that's boh-shit. If we choose to celebrate, then so be it. But singling one religion out because it's "traditionally" accepted is garbage to me. And I think that's why people get upset.

Conversely, if we identified every single holiday for every group out there, we'd never work.

This is getting better by the minute!

No problem S. It can only go too far if we pay attention to those trying to shove it down our throat. Personally, I love Christmas and I'm not about to let the PC police or the mass marketers screw it up for me. Everyone's gonna be home this year and we're all healthy, so life is good.

And of course there's the new train.

lol Rock, I think you chose two countries with relatively high Christianity rates.

I get your point, it was just funny.

**EDIT** - 46% of SK is non-demoninational and 26% is Christian, 26% Buddhist. 63% of Ghana is Christian.

Well, I think that's a factor, too, Dave. The PC police should not be LIMITING the extent to which people that DO celebrate are able to celebrate. Any individual should have the freedom to celebrate their religious/celebratory events in the manner that they choose, or it'd be an infringement on religious freedom.

Then again, the key to that is that is also that that celebration is not harmful (as opposed to "offensive" or something along those lines) to others...and I'd find someone to be hardpressed to say that celebrating Christmas is harmful to anyone (within reasonable perception, of course).

I guess it's more of a guideline for public bodies...I don't think I'd too much shopping at GAP if I walked in around Easter to a big cross with a bloody Jesus mannequin hanging from it...unless they were giving out Cadbury Creme Eggs...yum.

Christmas is shoved down people throats as a commercial holiday more than a religious one. That's because it's celebrated by christians and non chistians alike. For some it's a religious holiday and for some it's all about Santa and snowmen. For retailers it's a time to sell a bunch of crap nobody would buy the rest of the year.

It can be whatever you want or it can be nothing. If I moved to the Middle East I wouldn't celebrate Muslim holidays but I wouldn't ask them to stop either.

Exactly, but Easter is seen as more a religious holiday than a commercial one. How often do you see nativity scenes used to advertise the latest Xbox.

Oh crap look at the time. Got to go decorate the tree now.

Nooo, but, migration rates and claims of equality and all that shit create a whole different context for that. But I see what you're saying.

This becomes the issue with Christmas having become a dual-intent holiday. For some people, it's still a very tradtionally religious holiday, with midnight mass and all that other weird stuff. For the rest of us, it's just a time of year to spend lots and get pressies.

As for Easter...it's a religious holiday? I thought it was about bunnies that laid eggs. I swear to Go...er...I just swear! Always seemed like a hell of an excuse for a 4 day weekend, to me.
