Davebud, Check Out These Pics.

Here are some pics I took earlier this year, the south polar region of the moon and three shots of Mars.

The one of the moon was taken by holding my digital camera up to the eyepiece of my 8" Celestron SCT.

The pictures of Mars were taken with a Celestron NexImage solar system imager and stacked using Registax. I'm still pretty green using this camera, but it'll improve (I hope)

Very nice!

Always fancied getting a telescope, but never sure where to start...

What kind of camera have you got?

My digital camera is a Canon Powershot A75. It's a decent enough consumer model, nothing special. I have to have a steady hand to take shots through the telescope.

The Celestron NexImage is a ccd camera that is designed to take pics through my scope with the use of a computer.

By the way, if you're interested in getting a beginners telescope, check out this link for info:

Thanks for this!

Come the New Year, after Christmas/New Year etc is over I may look into this a bit more seriously - and will pick your brains for advice!

Need to get a Digital SLR

Those are really nice pics. I do not have steady enough hands to take planet shots. I have three scopes but none of them are tracking, I have an 8 inch Orion Dob, The 12" Orion dob I took that pic through and an ETX 90 sans the mount I bought for bird watching. KA a dob is a good way to start. Go to Astromart.com and sign up for the forums over there. I am a moderator on the beginners forum over there, but you will get a lot of info on any astronomical subject you might have an interest in.

Hey Dave, thanks for the info, I definitely will check it out.
I'm no expert by a long shot and can use all the help I can get.

Great shots. Almost makes me want to get out that expensive equipment that I had to have 5 years ago. It has been sitting upstairs untouched for the almost entire time. What a shame, maybe that will be my new goal. Although I will need to get a new bracket for my camera, as it is for my old AE-1 and I have since bought a Digitial Rebel. That is an amazing shot for simply holding the camera to the eyepiece.

Dave, if you start looking at digital SLR's, here are a couple decent review sites.

...after going to a digital SLR, there is no going back for me, and I have been using film for 30 years now.

I have The Canon Rebel XT

I was just saying that to Dunk he has the telescope, now all he needs is the T-Adapter and a Digital SLR. I on the other hand need a tracking platform or an SCT telescope.
