Firefox speed tweak

1. Type about:config into the address bar and hit return.

2. Alter the entries as follows (by double clicking each entry):

Set network.http.max-connections to 48

Set network.http.max-connections-per-server to 24

Set network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy to 12

Set network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server to 6

Set network.http.pipelining to true

Set network.http.proxy.pipelining to true

Set network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to 8. Any more and you may get banned from the site visited, as it may be viewed as DOS attack. Try a higher value say upto 32 but be prepared to lower the value if sites fail to load.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer.

Name it nglayout.initialpaint.delay and set its value to 0.
This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages 2-3 times faster now, even if a dial-up connection it will still be faster than before.

I went ahead and made the changes, and it is quicker.

FIREFOX SETTINGS

Thanks Sling, I had downloaded that browser to try it and it did seem to work better than Explorer. I changed the settings to your configuration and it smokes now! Pages load like lightning with my highspeed.

Google firefox, Master, it's a netscape base browser. 100 times better than IE.

I had stopped using Nutscrape so many years ago because it just turned to ass. Pages never worked right, everything was f'd all the time, it was a huge waste of time.

Now, IE gets me new spyware and adware every 30 seconds (despite "normal" security settings, etc) so I'm giving FF a try. Seems good so far!

A couple annoying little things though, like tabbing down to "submit reply" now tabs through all the Icons instead of one tab to the icons and one tab to the submit button, but those are things I can get over if I stop getting the Buttseye Network installation crap all the time.

Silver, did you see my post on the M$ antispyware program?

Do yourself a favor and download it, install it and run it. If you use other adware removal tools, run them and then be amazed at what they miss when you run the M$ one.

Firefox

I too like this Firefox browser. Only problem I have with is this. I have a Logitech Mouse set up for browsing, and when I bring up the little wheel screen with the BACK setting it will not work with Firefox. Anyone else have this problem? Damned if I can cure it!
Other than that is a lot faster than IE. Pages, pictures or whatever fly onto the screen now after I did Sling's fixes.
