Ok guys... need your help.

Im creating (with a LOT of help from a very good mate) a Golf Score database (more for myself) however im going to release it to you guys too

It lets you enter your course in, then enter data based on that, so you can see how your doing. At the moment the stats i am collecting for each hole are -

Score
Drive the Fairway?
GIR
Putts

Can you think of any more useful stats that could be easily recorded on your round?

Thanks

Chris

I like to keep track of up and downs and sand saves.

Penalties

As much as I hate tracking them I like to keep track so I keep a clear record as to why I shot a 6 on that damned par 3!

How about a "round notes" section where you can give reasons (like weather, penalties etc) for why you didnt shoot 65 today?

look forward to it Woosey. I have been meaning to write a similar program but never get to it.

I often keep my card as follows Blue being the card grey my entries.

hole 1
par 4
white 369

left 107
fwy x
putts 1
score 4

the "left" row is how far out I am from the green. easier than figuring how far i drove as you will naturally figure how far out you are. the software could take the hole distance minus the left and figure the drive distance.
"fwy" x is drive in the fairway, blank is not.

again I would like to let the program do the figuring so by listing the putts i not only get putts but also score minus putts tells me if i got GIR ( like a bogey score and a three putt would still show GIR)

the above example shows that i drove 262yrds (lol) hit the fairway, missed the green and had one putt for a par

I find this info not to hard to enter on the card and gives me the data to figure GIR, fairways hit, Drive distances, putts, etc later.

Good luck Woosey and look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Thanks for the input.

The GIR thing, i would need it implement handicaps to do this, and although i do plan to do this, to begin with its simple

Driving distance.....perhaps, however you never know (unless your next to a marker) exactly how far it is to the hole? so its a bit of a guess?

Am a bit confused on why the handicap would effect GIR? did you mean par?

and yes, Drive dist. is a approximate, I guess my point was that rather than doing the calculation of how far you hit while on the course, only be concerned with how far to the green you still have to hit. I usually know from the 150 marker than I am about 135 yds out, or 185 out or whatever as I want to know the distance for the club selection. Of course all the statistics in the world wont help my game as much as more practice would

the GIR would change with handicap in theory, otherwise a 28 handicapper is very rarely going to hit a GIR unless the GIR is moved in line with there handicap?

The point of this is to see WHAT you need to practise

I thought my putting was ok until i started keeping a record.

Excellent point Woosey. Been sitting here wondering where I screwed up so bad today. Look forward to your software telling me.

(And i see your point about the handicap/GIR issue. )

I'm not following the GIR / handicap thing.

I always thought greens in regulation meant that you hit the green from the tee on a par 3, hit it in 2 on a par 4 and hit it in 3 on a par 5.

Am I wrong? how does a handicap have any effect on it?

I see your point, but I would still rather track

Against par, and right now I can hit GIR's even with an Exponential handicap. my current handicap is something like 3x10to the 24th power or something.

I Currently Track:

Score
Drive in Fairway
Driver hit off the tee (for driver vs. other clubs comparison on fairways hit)
Green in Regulation
Fairway bunker hit
Greenside bunker hit
Chips (yes or no, not the number. helps analize my approach accuracy)
Putts
Penalty strokes

All good information once you start getting enough rounds in to see trends.

Hey,

The problem is I think it might be getting a bit to cluttered at this point? There is a lot of stuff there?

Chips would surely come under GIR?
Penalty strokes, I suggested a solution above
Driver of the tee, good idea, however you know that if your driving accuracy is 40% and its only your driver that is wayward
