Pray for me......

Tomorrow I quit my job and either start at McDonalds of get my pathetic barn business off the ground.

I have 2 meetings with prospects tomorrow, one barn is unknown, the other is a MONSTER....over 5000 square feet and should come in at around $250,000 or more.

I am stone cold broke right now and really need these jobs to fall my way.

Pray for you? Hey, we'll do better than that! Let us know these peoples' names and addresses and we'll beat'em up for you! They'll be dying for you to build them a friggin barn!

And if that doesn't work, I Egg McMuffins.

Good luck Sling. Being self employed can be fun huh? I can't tell you how many times I've been in that situation but things have always managed to work out and I'm sure they will for you too.

Welcome to the world of the self employed. Always a fear when there is no work on the books (tho you always have a job, even if the job is to find paying work). On the otherhand, think positive. You are doing what you want to do, have only to answer to yourself, and the rewards (and the problems) are all yours.
The worst thing about being self-employed is that when you dont have work you have time for golf but worry about having the money. When you have the work and money you dont have the time. I am pulling for you Sling, Good luck.

Thanks Doug.....I have been self employed for a very long time....almost all of it as a sub-contractor. That changes tomorrow.

Good luck, break a framing square and all that

I am happy being a sub, but I know the money is at the top. Once you get a couple of them going though it will all be downhill from there. What Sub trade are(were) you?

Just a note

Started out hanging sheetrock when I was 15, moved to framing then roofing, back to framing, did concrete for a while, mostly flatwork. Then I worked for a remodel company for a couple of years and pretty much did everything. Got really stupid and started doing Insulation, started out under the house insulating crawl spaces, money was outstanding even if the work sucked. Switched to doing attics in 1991, I did that for almost 8 years, drove the big Insulation truck and really racked up the miles. Then decided I was going to put my mouth to work and left the company I was working for when they failed to promote me to sales, so I went to work for their biggest rival and took about a third of their accounts. That worked out for a couple of years until the percentages of my take started to slide. The higher the margin I got the more it seemed like they reaised the bar and paid me less.
My wife had been cleaning homes the whole time I was Insulating, so I came home after one really bad day and told her " I hate this and I think that we should start cleaning new homes for builders."
She just asked me if I thought I could get us enough work, and I said I could so she told me if I hated it at the Insulation place that much, lets go ahead and do this. Went to work the next morning feeling pretty good about the world, told the boss he was a real A$$hole, and that the only people there that got along with him were the ones with brown rings around their necks, he could take the keys to my company truck and shove them, and other nice comments about his mother his sister and so on.
Been self employed ever since, I have the most attractive partner on any site and I split 50/50 with her. (OK so in the end its more like 10/90 but hey it all ends up at my house) Life is good.

I'm a heathen and I pray. Just not to the God other people want me to pray to. It doesn't mean I have to be PC and say "my good thoughts are with you". I can say "my prayers are with you". It means the same thing. So don't feel bad about implying that a heathen like me can't send you good wishes.
