Thread: Never say never part 2

  1. Never say never part 2

    Resistance is futile.

I bought a cell phone today. :( Never thought I would get one, but I have to go out of town for reserve annual training and I need to check in.

How the **** do you work this thing?

Welcome to the club, Doc. I've had one since 1990 (well, OK, a car phone). Never looked back. Best bit of tech ever invented.

Plus, now anyone can find out exactly where you are, any hour of the day, as long as you're carrying it and it's on. Doesn't that make you feel more secure?

  3. Sweet, now you can call home on Sunday if you are running late and have them turn on the VCR so you don't miss the big game. Yeah, cell phones can be a pain to figure out. I just got a POS one, my GF's old one, in replacement of my top of line Treo. Still can't figure it all out, problem is it can only do about 1/20 of what the other one could.

You know, when I went down to TX, I was shocked and amazed at how many cell phones were in use there. I mean, people up here have them, but it'd be the day that my life revolved around a telephone that i carried with me.

How the hell do you "get away from it all"?

This absolutely confuses me to the fullest. Call me dull, but I carry my cell for emergency use and the odd call. It'd be the day that my GF calls me "just cuz".

    F that.

  6. I treat the cell phone the same as you R35. When I'm golfing it gets shut off and left in the car. When I get home from work it gets shut off. Some people (like you say) live their lives around those damn things. I think some businessmen like to show off like they're buying and selling stock (but in reality probably have no one on the other end). And people driving cars talking on cell phones are a hazard.

I get that some people use them for business (call forwarding while away from the office), but in the airports, EVERY person was using theirs. I felt like a leper. I thought of just pulling it out and using it to fit in.

Then I said to myself, "No. Be strong. You CAN do this."

Trevino said how far do you hit it?
The guy said 120yds and Trevino said why do you want to back it up?

Cell phones are hard to figure out? I love being young and techno-savvy.

I hate having a cell out on the course though, but recently I haven't had a choice.

The world changes. I remember when we "techies" could set the gap on the points with a match book cover. And i am willing to bet a beer you and anyone under 25 hasn't a clue what I am talking about, but most guys over 50 do.

Welcome to the world of cell phones. They really are a pretty handy tool but like Rock said, most people around here treat them like an additional appendage. I saw a guy at the golf course teeing off while wearing a blue tooth ear piece.

That's not entirely true. You have to have a GPS capable phone, which most are these days, and the feature has to be turned on, which is the default setting in most phones. It wouldn't surprise me if manufacturers build that feature into an always on some time in the future.

As far as anyone having the ability to see the coordinates, well, that's untrue. The only places to see that information are at a 911 call center, the central office that controls whichever market the phone is in, or someone dialed into that respective central office. Law enforcement agencies have to coordinate with the central office to trace a phone.
