I went to the University of Alabama and my roommate was from Youngstown Ohio...all of his buddies went to The Ohio State University.

Back in 1978, OSU was playing Oklahoma in Columbus. Rick's buddies invited us to come up.

We had class late on Thursday afternoon and got in the car at 6 pm....drove all night. Arrived in Columbus at about 6:30 AM, right as kids were tumbling out of bed to go to class. I'll never forget falling straight into a warm bed and sleeping like a baby. Woke up at 3:30 when everyone was really cranking up the party activity.

We went down to High Street and it was super....thousands of kids from OSU and quite a few OU fans partying...we had a blast on Friday night.

So Saturday dawns and we go to Ohio Stadium for the game...a beautiful Fall afternoon. The game is close and halftime comes up. I am ready to go to the bathroom and one of our hosts says...."You've got to stay to see 'Script Ohio"...

Now here comes the OSU band...8 jillion of them in an impressive scripted display of coordination...you can see the O, then the H, then the I, and then the O....and then the tuba player comes out and "dots the I"....

So the guy next to me says...."isn't that cool- 'Script Ohio?"

Well I blew him away when I said...."Where's the 'State'? You know, we are at an Ohio STATE game.

He says, "There is no State".

I go, "What about Ohio University? I mean, it is a university in Ohio that has over 20,000 students. Are you going to identify yourself as "Ohio" or "Ohio State"?

He is dumbfounded by this....

About three years ago, I read an article in USA Today about a lawsuit filed by Ohio University against OSU RE: OSU calling itself "The Ohio University" including the band presentation when indeed...Ohio University is the Ohio University.

Trivia...........
