Hello, Sand trap refugee

Hey all.

I found my way onto a forum called thesandtrap a few weeks ago. I am a member of many different forums, on every different topic you can imagine.. Ive never had problems before with admins, but this was the exception... The place is run by a lunatic dictator, who called me awful names... so needless to say, I am no longer posting there.

Anyhow I play at Pajaro Valley Golf Club and Twin Creeks Golf Club, both in the monterey bay. I live in Salinas, California, about 20 minutes from Monterey, and many awesome golfing destinations.

I should add that another member offered this as a much better, dictator free environment, where we can talk about golf and not golf forum politics.

Welcome guys. You are in the right spot. Good folks here, and great moderators. Watch out for the Doctor, though...he can get a bit crazed sometimes...

Hang around long enough and you'll see what I mean

You should fit right in over here. Most of the admins are lunatics, although they usually rely mainly on the members to call people awful names. Although it is only usually done in an affectionate way. So when they start calling you awful names, you know you have carved your own niche.

There's no better way for you to get involved here than participating in our Pick 'em contest that we hold for each Major. See the rules below and make your picks for the upcoming Open.

The open championship....pick 'em

Yay!

I have no problems with flame wars... I just don't like being chased down and having my spelling fixed in my threads, along with a "learn to spell" or "you're a jerk" attached to them.

Awesome, glad you could make it...I posted that thread in the middle of the night iacas' time, I knew it would get rapidly moderated once he noticed. Looks like it lasted about 8 hours.

Welcome guys! Over here the moderaters ARE the trouble makers

Everybody has a great sense of humor, and when you start getting made fun of, you know you are fitting in.

Actually, you will see very few flame wars around here, as most people on here are on a more "friends" basis and keep it on a mature level. Which was my main reason for coming over from GR over a year ago.

Not to say that there are disagreements and overzealous debate at times. Just that the very, very, large majority if not all back up what they say with logic and reasoning on more of a mature level.

I believe most on here learned a long time ago that once you have to resort to name calling and profanity as the main portion of supporting your opinion, it is usually a sign that you have run out of other ways to support your information yet are unwilling to change your mind for the sole sake of wanting to be right. Which in the case of the character of most of the people on here, it is usually realized it is either time to step back and re-evaluate, or is many times the case show a willingness to realize it is O.K. to change your opinion in light of sound logic. Or as the quote goes: "Tis better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"

As you obviously saw in your old forum and as was the case at GR, it was more a matter of profanity and name calling becoming the major means of conversation simply because most of the people that understood the difference got tired of it and left, making a good part of the existing majority having nothing real creative to say or feeling as though they were speaking with themselves.

Welcome aboard. You will find this forum to be much more civil than any other out there. We have our disagreements here but they don't get carried away and there is very little mudslinging.
