Tim in Rhode Island

Hello,

Now that it's winter in RI, the golf bug has to be scratched on the internet it seems. Temps down in the 20s today!

I'm 35, but just started golfing seriously last year, even though I played a little growing up. I've made some pretty big strides to get down to a 19, but both this year and last I've peaked just in time for winter.

I'll live vicariously through you guys in warm climates this winter!

Man up, I played at Triggs this afternoon. I actually got a few new clubs so decided to go hit some shots, mostly tee shots, it was absolutley freezing. I hit my new 3iron off the toe and think I lost a filling out of my back tooth, lol.

Welcome to the board. Where do you usually play in the more mild temps? I play with a few guys on here. Mainly I play with a guy whose name is twofast2's on here and my boss though. Twofast and I have played just about every public course worth playing in the state but have yet to head out to Newport way. I'd like to try to play Newport National when the rates are still low in the earlier spring next year.

Hey,

I play Newport National more than anywhere else. Probably 10 rounds there this year and I really didn't get to start playing until July this year because work was REALLY busy. I work in Portsmouth and live in Newport, so National is perfect. I'd say it's the best public access course in the state. I think it's better than the Newport Country Club and close to Carnegie Abbey. The rates were actually "low" all summer. $65 with a cart (only members can walk) Mon-Wed & Sunday after 2. And for that $ you can't beat it IMO. I'll play Green Valley once or twice, but for just a little bit more money I'll take National every day. I played there the day before Thanksgiving and it's still in awesome shape. They said they are staying open for a while, but put the carts away as of today. Been paying $55 for the last couple months, not sure if they'll be cheaper now with no carts. There is a threat that the jackass that ownes Carnegie is going to buy it and turn it private. I sure hope not!

Other that I played Montaup a few times and try to hit the courses down in Southern RI once each. Richmond, Fenner Hill, NK, Exeter etc. Beaver River is actually really fun because it's tricky, even though it's short. Jamestown is easy, but it's been in great shape and good for a cheap quick 9. I've never played Triggs, but heard good things. I grew up in NK, so tend to stay south, but am up for anything.

Today was NUTS! You need help ! I think I've got a 40 degree minimum. I hope to be able to sneak out again. Who knows . . .
