Newb in Iraq

Hey all, I'm currently deployed to Iraq (FOB Warhorse, to be exact) and am expected to return in July, I'm from just outside of Houston, Texas though. I used to play golf when I was younger, not a lot, but I was good enough to be competitive with my granddad and able to beat my uncle. Well, since I've deployed I've been just having a craving to start playing again (it's been probably 5-8 years since I've swung) and when I went on leave I went to the driving range, and played the free 3 hole with my uncle, and it was NOT pretty!

I ordered a putter and a little practice green just to give me something to do here in my off time - turns out, there's also a little putt-putt type thing here too. Anyways, I plan on ordering some wedges (plenty of sand out here!) to try and just start swinging again while I'm out here. Does anybody have any suggestions on clubs that won't break the bank, but I could hang onto for a little while? When I come back I plan on playing as close to every weekend as I can, and I just look forward to learning things from y'all on the forums! Sorry for the long-winded intro, lol

J.C.

thanks for the welcome, I haven't left the forums since I posted! I had also meant to ask if anyone had any suggested reading for a beginner? After reading through a bunch of the posts, I realized that there's a lot more that I didn't know than I initially thought! Thanks again everyone!

Aye, welcome aboard. If you need anything, let us know any of us would be honored to send you stuff. When you get back to the states, let us know. The last thing a veteran should worry about is money to pay for clubs, im sure between us we can set you up a nice set for the price of free.

Thanks again

Welcome!!! Where's "FOB Warhorse"? Who are you with over there? Son is at Speicher, close to Tikret. He's with the 82nd Airborne. Almost got his 15 month tour completed. A call this past week told us to send no more packages. Once they get down to 30 days, or so, they don't want packages coming in after the guys are sent back to the States.

You folks, over there, are the GREATEST!!! Keep your chin up... and your head down! Let us know if there's ANYTHING you need. My wife has been sending packages to the son's bunkmates on their birthdays. She wouldn't mind at all continuing that with other deployed soldiers. Again, if you are in need of anything you can't get over there... legal of course... send a PM and we'll see what we can do.
