Thread: Hi all I would like to start with a question

  1. Hi all I would like to start with a question

At one time i lived for golf. Ive shot wilson, and taylormade and did well with both, but alas this tale has a sad ending. The evil former queen would not let me golf with the guys and my very expensive clubs were stolen. that was Many many years ago, and now that the evil former queen is not an issue, and the new good queen is all about me golfing with the guys. I need Input on clubs, things have changed ALOT since i last hit the links. I do not want to spend a ton of cash, since i have not played in 12 years, I need a good set complete while i get my game up and save up for some "name brand "clubs. Ive priced "name brand " used clubs and found them to be outrageous in price, why would i spend 499 on a set of say, calloway irons, when i can get a new set for 599 ( just tossing a number ) so any suggestions on a good set or what to do. i want to stay at around 300 total ( balls and glove and shoes not included) Thanks all
    KJM

Iron wise, I'd look at the Wilson Staff irons they have out now; or maybe even a set on Ebay or Craigs List. I got a brand new set of Di7s on there for I think $150 last year. Forget the price, these are great irons; great look, great feel...an extra club length when you hit them too.

I've got some woods and putters you may be interested in, if so P/M me and I'll run the gear down for you.

Re: Hi all I would like to start with a question

Go to a local golf shop that carries lots of clubs(used AND new) and hit as many different sets as they will allow you to.

Hit them on the launch monitor, hit them on a full flight range and see how they feel and how they fly. Unless you are on a tight budget just buy the ones that work adn feel the best to you. If you ARE on a budget like many of us are, look used. CLick the link at the top of the page that says 'Pro Shop' that will take you to a great site that sells realy nice used clubs for very solid prices.

Let us know if you decide on a couple different sets someone here will have had experience with them and can tell you how good each one is to help you make a decision.
I will keep my Freedom, my Money, and my Guns...you can keep the change.

I've heard good things about the Bridgestones. eclark is right though, you should try and hit alot of gear before you pick something; in the long run it could make all the difference in the world and you're only talking about an extra couple of days if you're really anxious to get out there playing again...

putter--buy that from the next person with Scotty fever--they need the cash

Actually I bought a great set of slingshots on fleabay for 190. Go to Golf galaxy etc and see if something catches your eye. Price is not right. Do some haggling or go shopping.

Guys around here also understand and enjoy being frugal--me too.

Also component build is good to. I made a set of irons for under 125 from Hieriko.com. Acer xp something pros. very good clubs.

Provided you don't live in the Southern Hemisphere, this is the time to spend searching. Should be a lot of fun, plenty of time to go to different outlets and try as many sets as you cen get your hands on, demo sets are also on their way out now as new models are incoming. Rumor has it that a guy in Isleworth is ditching a ton of clubs on the cheap.

Re: Hi all I would like to start with a question

If I were you I would consider going to your local Craigslist and see what I could find a good used set for. The advantage to this is, while the clubs might be used, you will be seeing the clubs up close before you spend the cash.
Seems to be the thing here to name your clubs, so here ya go.
