From the Emerald Isle

I live and work in County Wexford, Ireland. I've been playing golf since I was 6 years old (still hoping to achieve the same handicap some day) and have been a member of a small course called Greystones, in County Wicklow, all of my golfing life.

Talking golf is great fun, wherever you are and whatever you play off, and getting an American perspective on things is educational to say the least - like Tiger's recent performances/comments/swearing/spitting/winning/losing... and how you guys perceive players like Harrington and McIlroy.

I'm a copywriter by trade and in 2007-2008 I packed it in and (with my wife's blessing) drove around Ireland for 18 months in a camper van playing every 18 hole golf course on the island. (Moderators, if you don't like this, please remove.) It was all for a book on our 349 golf courses, as I felt some of the small courses (like Greystones) were not given the credit they deserved, and some of the big courses were over-hyped. I'm back in the real world and just playing golf for fun again.

Re: From the Emerald Isle

Hi Kevin

Good to have you on board. There are a few of the "Oirish" here. I play up North in Portstewart, I'm sure you made it up to my neck of the woods on your roadtrip. I also have played several times at Greystones, with family living down there.

So give us an insight on your book. Any gems to try out?

Re: From the Emerald Isle

Thanks for the welcome, and thanks for the follow on Twitter NVM.

Plenty of gems around, IrishGolfer (great to hear there are plenty of Irish representatives on here), just depends on where you want to go and whether you're a links or a parkland-man.

The book reviews every course from an amateur's perspective - so I'm pretty blunt about whether I like a place or don't. It's about the experience of playing, nothing else.
