Hello Shot Talk!

For those of you who don't already know me, my name is Rich and I am one of those crazy computer geeks that spends his free time posting to a golf blog just for the fun of it. I found Shot Talk about a week ago while searching google for *golf forums* - and I must say, there are several really good forums out there but Shot Talk is one of the best. I have been lurking ever since I found you guys and decided it was time to say hello.

I am about a 10 handicap and have set a goal of shooting 1 under par some time this summer. So far my short game won't let me break 80 though but I am not going to give up! One good round is all I need

Once again, what a great find Shot Talk is.

Hit em straight,

Rich

Hi Rich.
It's always a pleasure to have geeks peeking around, as you'll find there are a lot of us on this board... well not that much
Only had one round under 80 last year, with a flawless back nine. I'm planning to making it happen again this year, more than once would be nice too.

Hi Shot Talk,
I'm a avid golfer, inventor and grass cutter. I love this game way too much to play it bad. I'm working on it.

Hi, JC here (John for short). I've been playing golf for going on 40 years, but for about 20 of those years, only played once or twice a year. Got heavy into boating/fishing during those years and just didn't take the time to play golf as well. About two years ago, "rediscovered" golf and have mostly dropped the water sports to devote my time to the links. I'm married and have a [mostly] grown daughter who's just finishing her Master's in Nursing at Vanderbilt (Tenn.). Ye olde home place is in NW Ohio, where we now belong to a private club. Reason? Quite simple, really. We have fewer than 100 golfing members at our club, which means that I can tee it up any time I want and play as many or few holes as I want. Unfortunately, we have only a 150-yard practice range at the club, with just one practice green, so I "practice" mostly on the course. To wit, have played 20 days in a row. I am an equipment fanatic, building most of my own clubs these days, but also a firm believer in good mechanics and practice. Play hardly any tournaments, although my handicap is 6 and dropping (a bit). My wife also likes to play but her job makes play during the week hard to manage, so I usually forego (weekend) tournaments to get in a round or two with the missus. All aspects of my game have improved in the past year--lots of practice doesn't hurt, and my equipment is a lot better--but we all have weaknesses. Mine are lack of length from the tee, which leads me to try too hard when it's very windy, wet, and/or cold, and sometimes a balky putter. Like the little girl with the curl, when my putter is good, it's very, very good, and when it's bad, it's awful. My idea of fun on the golf course is, basically, playing. The only person I want to impress with my golf game is me. Occasionally, I actually am impressed. And sometimes my decisions on the course are impressively stupid.

My job is web designer and information specialist at a university. I was previously a teacher in high school and university. Nice to meet all of you!

Hey JC:

I think you will really like it here. The site is not filled endlessly with the same arcane equipment and rules questions over and over...

Good to have you....

B

Welcome JC.

And B...it can't help but come about eventually. With size comes repetition. If we grow, that will come.

Welcome jc. Good to see ya wander in. I remember you from GR, so I actually mean it when I say that.

Web developer here also. With that said, you have mistakenly mistyped your sig. It should actually be:

"Abandon hope, all ye who press enter here."

Thanks, Irish. We've had a lot of "Irish" weather lately--low 50s, coldish wind, lots of overcast--and I've enjoyed it immensely. Most evenings, there's been me and maybe one other guy on the course after 7 p.m. With sunset around 8:30, the wind often subsides around then and it's actually pretty nice, even with the cool temps. People who never play in the quiet of a spring evening are really missing it. I tell my Dad (who's 1/4 Irish, a Patrick, born on 3/17) that he ought to come out with me in the evenings, but he says his old bones can't stand the cold. For my part, I can't understand how a real golfer can try to play all his rounds in the hottest summer weather. That's not natural.
